  • Patent number: 4399693
Abstract: A method for borehole gravimetric determination of residual oil saturation of a formation is described. In a preferred embodiment plural measurements of the local gravity are taken at each of spaced locations within a well and those departing more than a statistically determined distance from the mean of the measurements taken at a given location are deemed to be in error and are not used in calculation of the density of the formation at a given point.

  • Patent number: 4398191
Abstract: An interlock system is provided wherein access to a test area containing radioactive material is prevented when testing is initiated and generation of harmful rays is prevented when access to the test area is gained during tests.

  • Patent number: 4397007
Abstract: A real-time monitor which displays analog representations of digital seismic data having been recorded on magnetic tape such that adjacent seismic traces are partially overlapped, whereby the appearance of an error is enhanced and is disclosed. The monitor display is controlled by a computer which may be of a type similar to computers used in the seismic data storage system for other purposes so that it may serve as a back-up computer. This system is implemented by incorporating into magnetic tape data storage drives read-after-write circuitry so that the data put on the tape can be read off the tape immediately thereafter and used to control the monitor means. In this way, the monitor is in fact operating in real-time and operates on precisely that data which in on the tape; thus any errors displayed on the real-time monitor include any errors made in the actual recordation of the data onto magnetic tape.

  • Patent number: 4387450
Abstract: Marine seismic data is gathered by a single vessel beyond the range of a conventional towed seismic sensor cable through the use of expendable sensors and hard wire transmission cables. The vessel tows a submerged platform adapted to carry several inexpensive seismic sensors and very small diameter multiconductor cables which are controllably released from the platform by appropriate equipment on the towing vessel. Signals generated by each sensor are transmitted back to the towed, submerged platform through the small diameter cable connected to each sensor and are transmitted by other means from the platform to the towing vessel for retransmission, recording and/or display. Each sensor transmits a signal back to the platform until its small diameter cable is completely deployed at which time the cable breaks and is abandoned together with the sensor.
