  • Patent number: 7154913
Abstract: A decoder has tuners for receiving data from different sources. Each tuner has an associated demultiplexer controlled to select a portion of a received signal corresponding to a selected channel or channels. The demultiplexer output to a remultiplexer configured to determine selected signal portions that have overlapping addresses, to reallocate addresses of the signal portions so there is no overlap, and to multiplex the signal portions for supply to a common interface slot.

  • Patent number: 7152210
Abstract: A device for browsing an image collection shows a continuously scrolling sequence of representations of images and commands in browsing area. A user can select a representation, which results in the full image being shown in a display area, or in the command being executed. Speed and direction of the scrolling can be varied with an input stroke in the browsing area. The representations could be shown together with border areas, which when selected limit the sequence to the representations belonging to the same category as the representation whose border area was selected. A general purpose computer can be programmed to function as the device by means of a computer program product.

  • Patent number: 7145945
Abstract: The invention relates to an interference-free LMS-based asynchronous receiver for digital transmission and recording systems. The receiver, having an asynchronously placed LMS-based adaptive equalizer, has 2 control loops: a timing recovery loop (by means of, for instance a PLL (Phase locked loop) and an equalizer's adaptation loop. Interference between the two loops is avoided by deriving a condition the equalizer should fulfill to avoid the interference between the two loops, which implies “orthogonal control functionality” and by combining the condition with the equalizer's adaptation loop. The equalizer shall adapt so that the condition is always true.

  • Patent number: 7130258
Abstract: An optical head (1) for scanning an optical record carrier (2) is provided with a compensator (16) for compensating the field curvature aberration of the objective system (18) caused by operation of the optical head at a different field angles. A surface of the compensator (16) comprises a phase structure in the form of annular areas (52, 53, 54, 55, 56), the areas forming a non-periodic pattern of optical paths of different lengths. The optical paths change as a function of field angle and form a field angle-dependent wavefront deviation that compensates field curvature of the optical head.

  • Patent number: 7130866
Abstract: A method and system for controlling the growth of a features frequency profile of a time-ordered sequence of events, wherein each event has features specific to each event. The events are sequentially processed in an order of processing. The processing includes selecting for each event processed at least one feature comprised by the event. The processing updates a frequency count of each feature selected. The frequency counts are periodically reduced in magnitude by a reduction factor. Frequency counts are selected for deletion upon satisfaction of a condition that favors deletion of those frequency counts having a magnitude less than a threshold value. The selected frequency counts are then deleted. The present invention employs an economical use of memory to store data associated with the features frequency profile and uses a features preference profile that is more responsive to recent information than to older information.

  • Patent number: 7127731
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for reading information recorded on the track of a data carrier (1). The apparatus comprises rotating means (2) for supporting and rotating the data carrier (1) around an axis of rotation (3). The rotating means (2) comprises a turntable (21) and a motor (23) for rotating the turntable (21). The apparatus according to the invention is able to suppress a wobble introduced by the data carrier (1) when rotated. This is done by a flexible part (24) in the rotating means (2). In an embodiment the supporting surface of the turntable (21) comprises the flexible part (24). This allows the data carrier (1) to tilt in radial and tangential direction. The centrifugal force which are present when rotation the data carrier (1), are able to level the data carrier (1), thus reducing the wobble.

  • Patent number: 7124337
Abstract: Real-time audio video applications require guaranteed request service times from a hard disc drive. This requirement is not always fulfilled due to some unexpected delays in service times. Re-allocated sectors are one of the causes of such delays. A scheme for conversion of re-maps into slips in a hard disc drive is suggested. Converting re-allocated sectors into slipped or skipped sectors can prevent such a delay, since slipped sectors cause much less or even negligible performance loss than re-allocated sectors.

  • Patent number: 7119721
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of converting a stream of databits of a binary information signal into a stream of databits of a constrained binary channel signal. This stream of databits of the binary information signal is divided into n-bit information words. These information words are converted into m1-bit channel words, in accordance with a channel code C1, or m2-bit channel words, in accordance with a channel code C2, where m1, m2 and n are integers for which it holds that m2>m1?n. The m2-bit channel word is chosen from of at least two m2-bit channel words, at least two of which have opposite parities, the concatenated m1-bit channel words and the m2-bit channel words complying with a runlength constraint of the binary channel signal.

  • Patent number: 7120094
Abstract: A device for reading and/or writing information from an optical carrier, the device comprising an imager for imaging a radiation beam into scanning spot to scan the carrier, and a detector for generating a read signal indicative of the intensity of the radiation reflected from the carrier. The device has an information transfer mode, wherein the scanning spot is moved in a first direction. The device has a displacement mode, wherein the scanning spot is moved in a second direction transverse to the first direction. The device includes a controller for controlling the imager in response to a measurement signal indicative of the degree of focusing of the radiation beam. The controller samples and holds the measurement signal in response to a sample signal causing the measurement signal to be sampled when the intensity is comparatively high thus reducing radial-to-vertical crosstalk.

  • Patent number: 7116250
Abstract: In a method of multi-dimensionally encoding a user data stream of user words into a channel data stream of channel words evolving in a one-dimensional direction of infinite extent, a user word is encoded into an NRZ channel word by selecting a NRZ channel word from a code table depending on the user word and the current state of an underlying finite-state-machine. A NRZ channel word comprises a sequence of NRZ channel symbols of NRZ channel bits having a one-dimensional interpretation along said one-dimensional direction and wherein states of an underlying finite-state-machine describing the characteristics of the multi-dimensional code are defined by NRZI channel bits of the previous channel work and by NRZ channel symbols of the current channel word. The NRZ channel symbols are transcoded into NRZI channel symbols by a one-dimensional 1T-precoding operation including an intergration modulo 2, said 1T-precoding operation being carried out along said one-dimensional direction of infinite extent.
