  • Patent number: 4602683
Abstract: Scale deposition is inhibited with a new scale inhibitor precipitation squeeze method wherein inhibitor solution is injected at a higher first pH into a subsurface brine producing formation. Thereafter, the solution is subjected to a fluid or substance which lowers the higher first pH of the scale inhibitor solution to a lower second pH, thereby causing precipitation of scale inhibitor in the formation. The scale inhibitor is characterized by the fact that the scale inhibitor exhibits a significant solubility decrease between the higher first pH and the lower second pH. The method of this invention, therefore, is based on decreasing the pH the scale inhibitor solution to deposit the scale inhibitor and does not use prior art divalent cation precipitation methods to precipitate inhibitors. This invention lessens the chances of formation damage or plugging. The preferred scale inhibitors are the amine phosphonates of a given general structure.

  • Patent number: 4346765
Abstract: A portable pneumatic tool includes a valve closure member interposed in the tool motor exhaust passage and engaged with a speed responsive mechanism comprising a plurality of flyweights operable to move the closure member to an open position on starting of the tool motor. On decreasing motor speed a coil spring assisted by a fluid pressure drop across the closure member forces the closure member to move against the decreasing centrifugal force exerted by the flyweights to shut off motor exhaust fluid flow to stop the motor. The closure member is normally held in a partially open position by a second spring to enable the motor to be started. An alternate embodiment includes a limited motion coupling between the valve closure member and the motor drive shaft which provides assistance in opening and closing the valve closure member.

  • Patent number: 4335963
Abstract: One end of a rotatable mixer drum is journalled by a spherical bearing mounted on the housing of a power transmission having its rotary output coupled to the drum by a drive shaft which axially penetrates the bearing. Arcuate splines at opposite ends of the drive shaft mesh with gear teeth of the transmission output gearing and with gear teeth carried by the drum whereby the shaft is free to deflect with respect to the transmission gearing and the drum gearing when the spherical bearing deflects as a result of drum-to-transmission misalignment. The shaft is arranged with respect to the bearing and the gear teeth engaged by its splines so that the total deflection of the bearing is divided between the ends of the shaft.

Abstract: A pneumatic screwdriver or nutsetter includes a manually actuated electrical switch and a solenoid operated motive air shutoff valve which includes a spring biased reset element for moving the shutoff valve closure element from a valve closed position to a valve open position prior to introduction of compressed air to the tool motor. The reset element is retracted away from the closure element by pressure air on startup of a tool operating cycle. The closure element is released upon deenergization of the solenoid at a predetermined signal to close the shutoff valve. In an alternate embodiment the switch is replaced by a pneumatic valve and the reset element is pressure air biased to move the shutoff element from the shutoff valve closed position to the open position.

  • Patent number: 4267892
Abstract: In a pivotally mounted rock drill boom and feed bar apparatus the boom and the feed bar positioner include angle sensors comprising cam actuated fluid pressure regulating valves. The pressure regulating valves are disposed in a control circuit which includes a pilot pressure fluid actuated control valve which senses an unbalanced pressure signal generated by one of the sensors in response to pivotal movement of the boom. The control valve responds to the unbalanced pressure condition by valving pressure fluid to the feed bar positioner actuator to maintain the feed bar in a predetermined directional attitude. The angle sensor responsive to pivotal movement of the boom may be adjusted independent of movement of the boom to cause a change in the directional attitude of the feed bar as desired.

  • Patent number: 4246973
Abstract: A control system for a hydraulic percussion rock drill and feed mechanism including a single constant power hydraulic pump for supplying pressure fluid to operate the feed mechanism, drill stem rotation motor, and the percussion hammer. The drill feed, rotation and percussion functions are controlled by individual manually actuated pressure compensated valves. Fluid pressure to the feed mechanism is controllable at one of two selectable pressures and is automatically reduced if fluid pressure to the drill stem rotation motor exceeds a predetermined limit. The drill percussion blow intensity and frequency is controlled by a mechanism responsive to a fluid pressure signal which is automatically operated to provide for a high blow frequency and low blow intensity operating mode when the drill is retracted away from the workface. The constant power hydraulic pump is provided with a control which will adjust the pump output to a partial displacement setting when the drill is being retracted away from the workface.

  • Patent number: 4215594
Abstract: A power tool speed shifting mechanism includes a planetary gear set wherein the ring gear is connected to the driven member of a torque responsive disengageable clutch. The driving clutch member is keyed for rotation with the sun gear of the planetary gear set; and the ring gear is mounted in a one-way clutch to provide for unidirectional rotation of the entire planetary gear set at the speed of the sun gear when the torque responsive clutch is engaged. The one-way clutch is mounted in an axially movable but substantially nonrotatable member of a torque responsive coupling. In response to a predetermined torque being transmitted through the speed shifting mechanism the clutch members disengage to impose a reaction torque on the coupling through the ring gear and the clutch. Axial movement of the one coupling member together with the ring gear holds the clutch disengaged whereby the planet gear carrier then rotates at a reduced speed with respect to the sun gear.
