  • Patent number: 4963062
Abstract: A one-piece, pre-shaped anchor adapted to be forcibly driven axially into a tightly-fitting hole so that the anchor makes a strong interference fit therein. The anchor is constituted by a drivable element and an elongated shank integral therewith. The shank is pre-shaped to have an end portion furthest from the element which extends in the direction of the longitudinal axis passing through the element and shank, and to have at least one undulation between the element and the end portion that creates a bend having a peak on one side of the shank between spaced apart base portions on the other side of the shank. The anchor is formed of resilient material, whereby when the shank is driven into the tightly-fitting hole, the undulation will then be forcibly altered by reaction with the wall of the hole, and in seeking to recover its originl shape, will secure the anchor in place.

  • Patent number: 4957005
Abstract: A mass flowmeter of the Coriolis-type in which fluid to be metered is conducted through a flow tube which is coiled to define a helix having a pair of identical measuring loops forming a double loop, on either side of which is an isolation loop. The fluid is admitted into the input of one isolation loop and is discharged from the output of the other isolation loop. The helix is concentric with a support structure having at one end a flow inlet to which the isolation loop input is affixed, and at the other end a flow outlet to which the isolation loop output is attached. A rigid bar parallel to the axis of the helix is joined to the junction of the measuring loops as well as to the respective junctions of each measuring loop and its associated isolation loop whereby the isolation loops then function as decoupling springs to effectively isolate the bar and the double measuring loop from external forces.

  • Patent number: 4953408
Abstract: An electromagnetic flowmeter in whose primary the fluid to be metered is conducted through a flow tube to intercept a composite magnetic field to induce therein a voltage which is picked up by capacitive metering electrodes. The composite field is formed by a low-frequency comparison field having a long period on which is superimposed a high-frequency switching field having a short period. The voltage from the capacitive electrodes is fed by way of a high pass filter to the input amplifier of a secondary whose amplified output is analyzed to provide separate components, one originating from the comparison field and the other from the switched field. An output signal is produced in accordance with the time phasing of these components, after compensating for the signal loss experienced in the filter by the comparison field component by means of a compensation voltage derived from the switched field component.

  • Patent number: 4953409
Abstract: An electromagnetic flowmeter whose primary includes a flow tube through which the fluid to be metered is conducted to intersect a magnetic field and thereby induce a voltage therein that is transferred to electrodes to produce an electrode signal as a function of flow rate, which signal includes a noise voltage. The electrode signal is applied to the input amplifier of a secondary whose output is fed to one input of a summing stage, the output of which is fed to a range amplifier that yields a test voltage, the input and range amplifiers producing offset voltages. To compensate for the noise and offset voltages, a compensation voltage is derived from the test voltage and applied to the other input of the summing stage. This compensation voltage is produced only when the test voltage exceeds a predetermined threshold value.

  • Patent number: 4951674
Abstract: A biomagnetic analytical system for sensing and indicating minute magnetic fields emanating from the brain or from any other tissue region of interest in a subject under study. The system includes a magnetic pick-up device constituted by an array of fiber-optic magnetic sensors mounted at positions distributed throughout the inner confines of a magnetic shield configured to conform generally to the head of the subject or whatever other body region is of interest. Each sensor yields a light beam whose phase or other parameter is modulated in accordance with the magnetic field emanating from the related site in the region. The modulated beam from each sensor is compared in an interferometer with a reference light beam to yield an output signal that is a function of the magnetic field being emitted at the related site.

  • Patent number: 4936809
Abstract: A sound-producing toy having a hollow body formed of resilient material, whereby when the body is depressed and deformed by a player, this action produces a honking sound. The body envelops an air-filled cavity at one end of which is an air-intake valve whose actuating element is outside the body so that when the element is actuated by the player, air is admitted into the cavity. Also disposed in the cavity is a sound producer having an air outlet normally closed by a membrane which is partially secured to the outlet so that when the body is depressed by the player, the resultant increase in internal air pressure above ambient is exerted against the membrane and causes deflection thereof to permit air to escape from the outlet. The escaping air causes the membrane to vibrate to produce a honking sound. The air expelled through the outlet creates a partial vacuum in the internal cavity which acts to maintain the body in its deformed state.

  • Patent number: 4923429
Abstract: A bubble-propelled amusement device in which play pieces are dispersed in a water bath contained in an enclosed transparent tank having on its bottom wall an air nozzle and having in the air space above the bath an air intake, the pieces normally tending to sink toward the nozzle. Below the tank is a pump assembly comprising an air chamber coupled to a player-operated bellows, the chamber being provided with an air outlet and an air inlet, each having a check valve therein. The air outlet is coupled to the nozzle so that when the bellows is actuated by the player and compressed, the resultant positive air pressure in the chamber causes the outlet valve to open to feed air into the nozzle which injects into the water bath a stream of air bubbles that act to propel play pieces toward a target, the bubbles then being discharged into the air space.
