  • Patent number: 8333505
Abstract: Systems and methods for extending the range of a fiber optic DTS system are provided. In one respect, a method may provide steps for transmitting, in a first time period, an optical signal at a first energy level through an optical fiber, collecting backscatter signals as a result of the first transmission, adjusting the first energy level to a second energy level, transmitting, in an additional time period, the adjusted optical signal through the optical fiber, collecting backscatter signals as a result of the adjusted transmissions, and using a portion of the collected backscatter as a result of the first transmission and a portion of the collected backscatter as a result of the additional transmissions, determining one or more parameter profiles, such as a temperature profile.

  • Patent number: 7014605
Abstract: A blood pumping system to support living organisms based on a spherical multi vane and multi chamber pump with an oscillating motion that delivers pulsatile flow. The blood pumping system includes a number of design elements that address the particular needs and compatibility issues (both biological and hemological) of a blood pumping system.

  • Patent number: 6980938
Abstract: A method is disclosed for removing the dynamics of the PID controllers from a Model Predictive Controller that was developed using identification testing of a process. This allows creation of valve-based off-line process simulators and provides methods to generate new MPC controllers for complex multivariable process control when a change has been made in any PID control configuration or tuning and to do so without having to conduct new identification testing of the process.

  • Patent number: 6969419
Abstract: A method for removing bubbles adhering to the interior wall of a fluid-filled chamber through which a fluid flows, and a related method and apparatus for removing bubbles from a chamber having medical sensory equipment such as a blood gas and chemistry analyzer. The method includes drawing a quantity of gas into the chamber to empty the chamber of fluid, maintaining the chamber in an empty state for a predetermined period of time, and then refilling the chamber with fluid at a rate low enough to remove remaining bubbles and to prevent the formation and trapping of new bubbles within the chamber.

  • Patent number: 6907307
Abstract: In solid freeform fabrication processes that make use of a removable support material, pre-calculation of the amount of support material needed for a build is difficult (inaccurate or slow) because the digital data for generating the support material is often not generated until the build is in progress. A method is proposed that has been shown to generate rapid and accurate estimates of the amount of both build and support material needed before a build begins, to accurately predict before a build begins when replenishment materials are needed, and to track material consumptions over time.

  • Patent number: 6815636
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming three dimensional objects by laser sintering that utilizes a broad area thermal vision system such as an infrared camera that can measure multiple temperatures across the target area and use that temperature data as feed back to a control system that both adjusts a zoned radiant heater system and adjusts scan speed and laser power to control temperatures across the target area.

  • Patent number: 6574523
Abstract: An improved process for forming photocurable three-dimensional objects using an improved curing process is disclosed. The build object is formed by using differential curing of the photocurable media material to form cured solid regions with discrete mechanical properties at selected locations to tailor a part's properties to individual needs.
