Abstract: Apparatus for opening and closing the gates on a material storage bin to control the discharge of the contents therein into a receiving hopper. The apparatus is hydraulically operated and includes means to lock the receiving hopper in place in alignment with the bin gates.
Abstract: In apparatus for depositing a series of concentric loops on a conveyor whereby due to the motion of the conveyor the loops form a series of non-concentric overlapping loops, the combination of a conveyor belt having spaced pins for engaging the loops to control the spacing between the loops and guide means to engage the loops to limit their upward movement and contain them in the spaces between the pins of the conveyor belt, so that substantially uniform spacing occurs between the non-concentric overlapping loops.
Abstract: A protective shield for the bite between a pair of coacting rolls in a bending machine. The shield includes a guard positioned to contact and surround one of the rolls so that rotation of the roll causes the guard to rotate and shield the bite between the rolls.

Abstract: A wire strand is made by helically winding a number of layers of steel wire around a steel king wire. The wires in such layers are made from a first steel grade while the king wire is made from a second steel grade. In addition, the outermost layer of wire in the strand may be made from a third steel grade. A wire rope is formed by helically winding a number of such wire strands around a wire core.

Abstract: Sheet metal having a partially cured organic thermosetting coating thereon and method of forming drawn and ironed seamless containers therefrom.
Abstract: A low-alloy tool steel, for dies and molds, is deep hardening and highly machinable in the hardened condition. The steel is a water-quenched composition containing boron, sulfur, at least 0.020% aluminum, and a minimum of hardening agents including chromium and molybdenum. The method of producing such steel is disclosed.
Abstract: A coke quench car having a slanted bottom and discharge opening in one wall is provided with a movable grate at the discharge opening to drain water and retain coke. A door outboard of the grate closes the discharge opening in a substantially liquid-tight condition and accumulates quench water in the car to submerge the coke. Means are provided for selectively opening the door to drain only water at the quench station and for later opening the grate to discharge the quenched coke at the coke wharf.A second embodiment provides a tilting bottom coke car with a first sealing means for sealing the car in substantially liquid-tight condition to accumulate water and submerge the coke. A second sealing means are provided to permit the floor to be tilted to a liquid discharge position to drain only water. Means are provided for tilting the floor between an open and closed and intermediate liquid discharge position.
Abstract: A removable insert is placed in the collar of larry hoppers to restrict the flowing coal to a column having a dimension less than the interior width of the coking chamber and charging hole to provide space for exhausting charging gases.
Abstract: A method of making a series of wire strand sizes bracketing the most frequently requested strand sizes from a limited number of predetermined wire sizes such as two or three stock wire sizes by combining the stock wires together into a predetermined pattern to make any required strand size in the series. By producing wire strands in accordance with the invention the inventory of wire normally kept on hand in a production facility is decreased and the promptness with which orders for strands may be supplied is increased.
Abstract: A mobile marine apparatus has a platform, telescopic legs for supporting the platform, each telescopic leg having at least one inner section slidably mounted within an outer section, a frame member attached to the lower ends of the outer sections, a mat attached to the lower ends of the inner sections, locking means to selectively restrain relative movement between the sections and a jacking mechanism on the platform for selectively effecting or restraining relative movement between the platform and the sections and between the sections.
Abstract: An ultra-high strength steel composition of matter having a substantially martensitic matrix with a dispersion therein of a critical amount of metal oxide particles and characterized by increased resistance to environmental stress corrosion cracking. The metal oxide particles are selected from the group consisting of CaO, BaO, MgO, SrO and mixtures thereof, in the range of 0.1 to less than 3 mole percent. A powder metallurgy process to produce articles of manufacture from the composition of matter is disclosed.

Abstract: A coke oven and method of heating a coke oven are provided in which the coke oven has coking chambers with a low burner heating wall on one side of the coking chamber and a high burner heating wall on the other side of the coking chamber. Heating takes place by only low burners in one heating wall and only high burners in the other heating wall.
