  • Patent number: 4851829
Abstract: The present invention relates to a paging receiver and a method for generating an alert indicating the status of memory. The paging receiver includes a plurality of memory storage areas, each memory storage storing a received message and including a corresponding value indicative of the status of the stored messages. The status values are priority ordered. The number of memory storage areas having status values not exceeding a first predetermined value is determined. If the number determined is below a second predetermined value, an alert is generated.

  • Patent number: 4845485
Abstract: A combined radio pager/analog timepiece that may be worn on the wrist of the user is described. The device includes a stepping motor to periodically advance the second hand of the watch portion. The voltage pulse device signals to the timepiece are effectively inhibited during those intervals when the paging receiver is activated. Receiver activation occurs so as to monitor its communication channel or actually process an intended message if its unique address has been received and detected. These inhibited, i.e. delayed, voltage device pulses are later applied to the stepping motor on an accelerated basis to bring the timepiece to current time status.

  • Patent number: 4835777
Abstract: A digital paging receiver is provided which includes apparatus for determining if an incoming page message is a duplicate of a prior page message already stored in the memory of the receiver. If the current page message is determined to be a duplicate of such prior page, errors which are contained in the prior page are replaced with data from such duplicate page to reduce or eliminate errors in the stored page.

  • Patent number: 4803703
Abstract: A system and method is described for synchronizing a paging receiver decoder to receive information in the form of digitally encoded signals. The digital signals include a synchronization signal followed by message data. The synchronization signal includes a first and second portion of the synchronization signal. The decoding means is synchronized to the first portion for generating a timing signal. The decoder then measures a phase relationship between the timing signal and the second portion of the synchronization signal. The timing signal generated by the decoder is adjusted according to the phase relationship to improve the decoding of the incoming information. In a second embodiment, a second synchronization signal is transmitted for statistically improving the accuracy of the timing signal.

  • Patent number: 4802638
Abstract: A cord stowage device is provided which includes a spool having a channel through which a cable slidably passes from one side of the spool to the other side of the spool. First and second cup-shaped members are attached to respective ends of the spool. Each cup-shaped member includes a concave surface which faces toward the spool and the other cup-shaped member such that the first and second members grasp the cable as it enters the stowage device and as it exits the stowage device. The stowage device is positioned at the desired position on the cable by sliding the cable therethrough. When the stowage device reached the desired position on the cable, any excess slack cable in wound around the spool of the stowage device.

  • Patent number: 4803487
Abstract: A personal message receiving apparatus is described including a portable communications receiver, intended to be carried by the user, which receives, detects and stores messages transmitted on a first radio frequency communication channel. The stored message is then subsequently transmitted over a second communications channel to a presentation unit having a second receiver which is intended to be carried by the user. The second receiver receives, and detects the message, and presents the message to the user in the form of a visual display. The message may also be stored.
