  • Patent number: 4717905
Abstract: A system for monitoring a condition such as tire air pressure where the monitor at each tire is remotely energized by radio waves, there being two embodiments disclosed for effecting this. A loop antenna concentrically mounted with respect to each tire receiver and/or transmits electrical energy to the remote location which is typically at the operator's console. Each pressure sensitive device is mounted away from the valve stem and may include a strain gauge mounted on the tire side wall or between the wall and rim. An infra-red detector may also be employed as a pressure monitoring device.

  • Patent number: 4716873
Abstract: An ignition timing correcting circuit which retards ignition timing when knock occurs and advances ignition timing when knock does not occur. An optimal ignition timing on which the ignition timing is to be converged is set to a latest ignition timing to which the ignition time can be retarded without raising the exhaust gas temperature higher than a predetermined value at the actual air-fuel ratio at that time. The actual ignition timing corrected by the ignition timing correcting circuit is compared with the optimal ignition timing. An air-fuel ratio control circuit corrects the air-fuel ratio toward the lean side when the actual ignition timing is on the advance side of the optimal ignition timing and toward the rich side when the former is on the retard side of the latter.

  • Patent number: 4716871
Abstract: In an intake system having a bypass passage for introducing auxiliary air to the engine, a base amount of auxiliary air is first determined according to the engine operating condition. A target idling speed is calculated according to the engine temperature and the engine load and the target idling speed is compared with the actual engine speed. The base amount of auxiliary air is corrected according to the difference between the target idling speed and the actual engine speed, thereby obtaining a final target amount of auxiliary air. The control amount of the control valve is determined according to the final target amount of auxiliary air referring the final target amount of auxiliary air to the output characteristics of the control valve. Then the control valve is driven on the basis of the control amount.

  • Patent number: 4717602
Abstract: A silicon nitride layer is formed on a substrate by reacting (1) silicon fluoride, (2) nitrogen or nitrogen hydride and (3) nitrogen fluoride by a chemical vapor deposition method using thermal energy and/or optical energy.According to the invention process, fluorine is added to the silicon nitride layer to make Si--F bonds, by which the amount of Si--H bonds can be reduced less than 1/10 as compared with that of silicon nitride made by the conventional reaction between SiH.sub.4 and HN.sub.3. Silicon nitride layer according to the invention will highly enhance the reliability of IC, LSI.

  • Patent number: 4716576
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling a transmitter-receiver which can transmit and receive an aural signal and a data signal. In the transmission mode, the control apparatus detects a data transmission instruction of the transmitter-receiver and changes to the mode in that the data signal is supplied to the transmission unit of the transmitter, thereby executing the data transmission. On the other hand, in the reception mode, the control apparatus discriminates that the signal received is the transmission data to the transmitter-receiver and reduces the output volume of the receiving unit, thereby allowing the transmitter-receiver to receive the reception signal as the data signal.

  • Patent number: 4714063
Abstract: An intake system for an internal combustion engine comprises a first valve provided to open and close an intake passage leading to each combustion chamber, a bypass passage for introducing intake air into each combustion chamber bypassing the first valve, and a second valve provided to open and close each of the bypass passages. The first valves are operated to close the respective intake passages in a light load range and to open the same in a heavy load range. The second valve is operated to close the bypass passage in the middle of each intake stroke. The first valves are controlled so that the opening of the intake passages is increased as the engine load increases after exceeding a predetermined value, and the second valve is controlled to delay the time the bypass passage is closed with increase in the engine load so that the time the bypass passage is opened overlaps with the time the intake valve is opened when the engine load reaches the predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 4714058
Abstract: In a spark-ignited engine in which a spark plug is supported so that its igniting tip is centrally located in the combustion chamber, a bore for forming a coolant passage is provided in the wall of the cylinder head defining the combustion chamber to extend between an exhaust port and a threaded bore into which the spark plug is screwed. The bore is formed to extend from a cooland inlet formed in the lower side of the cylinder head through which coolant from the cylinder block enters the cylinder head to the water jacket formed in the cylinder head so that the coolant from the cylinder block flows through the bore under the pressure difference between the coolant inlet and the water jacket.

  • Patent number: 4709595
Abstract: A cruise control system for a vehicle having an automatic transmission comprises a vehicle speed sensor for detecting the actual vehicle speed, an engine output power control mechanism, and a vehicle speed controller which compares the actual vehicle speed detected by the vehicle speed sensor with a set speed and controls the engine output power control mechanism in accordance with the result of the comparison so that the vehicle speed is converged upon the set speed at a predetermined rate. The automatic transmission is caused to downshift when the actual vehicle speed is lowered from the set speed by a predetermined amount while the vehicle speed controller operates to fix the vehicle speed, and when the automatic transmission is shifted down, the predetermined rate of convergence is reduced so that the vehicle speed is converged upon the set speed at a reduced rate.
