Abstract: This invention relates to ornithine derivatives substituted at the 5 position with an R group which can be a --CH.sub.2 F, --CHF.sub.2, --CHClF, --C.tbd.CH, --CH.dbd.CH.sub.2, or --CH.dbd.C.dbd.CH.sub.2 group and the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof which are specific inhibitors of OAT and can be used in the treatment of conditional deficiencies of ornithine.
Abstract: A sulfur analog of enoximone, 1,3-dihydro-4-methyl-5-[4-(methylthio)benzoyl]-2H-imidazol-2-thione, is reported to reduce reperfusion injury, the injry which occurs when molecular oxygen is reintroduced into an ischemic tissue. The compound could be used to prevent much of the damage which occurs to the heart of a heart attack victim.

Abstract: This invention relates to the synergistic enhancement of certain antihypertensives by the conjunctive use of certain cardiotonic agents. More specifically, this invention relates to the enhancement of the blood pressure lowering effect achieved with alpha.sub.1 -adrenoceptor antagonists by the conjunctive administration of cardiotonic agents possessing the ability to specifically inhibit cyclic AMP-phosphodiesterase.
Abstract: Novel 5-acyl-2-(1H)pyridinones and their use as cardiotonic agents. Typical of the compounds is 5-acetyl-1,2-dihydro-6-methyl-2-oxo-3-pyridinecarbonitrile which is prepared by condensing anionic cyano acetamide with 3-[(dimethylamino)methylenyl]-2,4-pentanedione in an inert organic solvent.
