The handle may include a gripping region having a grip surface with a plurality of spaced slot openings exposing portions of the base. In one construction, the handle may have an inclined portion and a grip body extending through a base of the handle. The grip body forms opposite finger grips on the inclined portion of the handle. In one construction, the handle may include a grip element which provides shifting of a mass centroid of the handle during use. In another construction, the handle includes a resilient grip body and the handle includes an aperture extend through the handle. Aperture has an inclined surface for engaging a resilient grip body.

Abstract: A powered toothbrush is provided and includes a handle portion having a neck formed at one end and a head coupled to neck. The head includes a first carrier that is coupled to the head and is operatively connected to a first drive for moving the first carrier in a first direction. The first carrier has bristles, elastomeric cleaning members, or a combination thereof extending outwardly therefrom. The head also includes a second carrier that is coupled to the head and is in selective engagement with a protrusion extending in a recess defined by the first carrier to impart movement in a second direction. The second carrier has bristles, elastomeric cleaning members or a combination thereof extending outwardly therefrom. In an exemplary embodiment, the first carrier oscillates in a rotational direction and the second carrier moves in a direction parallel to the head.

Abstract: A powered toothbrush which has been designed for improved ergonomics and for assisting the user in using a powered brush in an improved and gentler manner. The powered toothbrush includes a handle portion having a base member at one end thereof. A neck portion extends from the other end of the handle portion with the head coupled to the neck portion. The head includes at least one bristle carrier connected to a drive shaft rotating the at least one bristle carrier in a first rotatable direction. In order to improve the ergonomics and stability of the powered toothbrush, the handle portion is formed asymmetrical about the longitudinal axis of the powered toothbrush and the base member of the handle portion is substantially flat.

Abstract: The head of a powered toothbrush includes a first tuft block mounted for rotational oscillation about an axis generally perpendicular to the outer surface of the head, and a second tuft block having fixed bristles or bristles independently movable by being mounted on an elastomeric base. The second tuft block oscillates perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the head and in an in and out direction perpendicular to the outer surface of the head. A third stationary block may also be mounted on the head of the powered toothbrush. The bristles on the first, second, and third tuft blocks may be of various lengths, colors and stiffness, and may be mounted perpendicularly to or at an angle to the outer surface of the head.

Abstract: A toothbrush includes a head having multiple cleaning elements. One group of the cleaning elements is flexibly mounted on the head and another group may be fixedly mounted on the head. The flexibly mounted cleaning elements are attached to a flexible membrane so that the membrane is capable of flexing to alter its original orientation during use of the toothbrush and then recover to the original orientation randomly during use.

Abstract: A toothbrush includes a support member mounted on a first shaft in the head of the toothbrush. A carrier member is mounted on a second shaft to the support member. The support member is eccentrically mounted so that when its first shaft is rotated the carrier member is moved in an orbital path during the rotation of the support member. The carrier member is freely mounted on its second shaft so that during this orbital movement the carrier member rotates in a random manner. Cleaning elements such as bristles extend outwardly from the carrier member.

The first carrier has at least one of a plurality of bristles and elastomeric cleaning members extending outwardly therefrom to deliver oral care benefits to the user. The head also includes a second carrier coupled to the head. The second carrier is formed of an elastomeric material and has at least one of a plurality of bristles and elastomeric cleaning members extending outwardly from an upper surface thereof. The second carrier is constructed so that upon application of a force to the upper surface thereof, the second carrier moves in a second path of motion that is different from the first path of motion.

Abstract: A powered toothbrush refill head combines a typical round oscillating or primary tuft block which oscillates in a rotational manner with a secondary tuft block. The secondary tuft block may be oscillated in a rotational manner or may oscillate linearly back and forth in the same direction as the handle of the toothbrush. The secondary tuft block could be in the form of a pair of side by side plates mounted on the head adjacent to the round oscillating block. The invention could also be practice where the secondary tuft block is in the form of a plurality of sets of rows of bristles mounted for back and forth movement in a direction perpendicular to the handle.

Abstract: A package that demonstrates a functionality of a contained product that has a demonstration feature distinct from the contained product that changes from a resting state to an active state upon activation of the contained product is described. In at least one configuration the product is a power toothbrush. In various instances the demonstration feature may be a movable medium. Among other things the movable medium may be agitated in the active state or may comprise various substances including one or more of sand, glitter, particles, powder filaments or fiber. A method of demonstrating the aforementioned functionality of a product, such as a toothbrush, is also described.
