  • Patent number: 4383468
Abstract: A method of producing plastic-based casings including preformed metal fragments for ordnance articles, such as hand grenades, weapon-launched grenades or the like, by rotational molding in a shell-mold; a pulverulent thermoplastic polymer material, such as polyethylene, and steel fragments or particles are introduced into the cold shell mold, optionally in the form of a pre-compact; the closed mold is rotated slowly, i.e. at a speed where the polymer and metal constituents tend to tumble about the inner mold surface and are not held substantially thereon by centrifugal effects; while continuously rotating the shell mold about two or more axes of rotation, the mold is heated by an externally applied hot fluid such as hot gas.

  • Patent number: 4090899
Abstract: A welding method for joining self-supporting structures made of thermoplastics by assembling said structures to form an area of mutual overlap, generating heat in said area to produce a welding zone having an elevated temperature and containing said thermoplastics in an at least plastic state for mutual coalescence of said structures in said area; an expanding agent is provided in the welding zone to generate a gas pressure therein for promoting coalescence of the weld. The invention is particularly suitable for welding tubes and other pipeline elements, such as fittings or sleeves, of thermoplastics and produces a tumescent weld which fills any macroscopic voids while including a plurality of minute closed cell voids.

  • Patent number: 3946114
Abstract: Yeast is produced by fermenting hydrocarbons in an aqueous nutrient medium which includes sulfate, chloride and phosphate ions. When the fermentation is completed the nutrient medium has become depleted in mineral content and a large portion of it is purged. A calcium source is added to precipitate the phosphate ion out as calcium phosphate. The precipitated calcium phosphate is added to the yeast, which in itself is an excellent source of protein. The resulting product is suitable for use as an enriched animal feed. Meanwhile the removal of the phosphate ion eliminates a pollutant from the purge stream.
