  • Patent number: 5957503
Abstract: A safety shield, suitable for use in a marine environment, which can be quickly and easily removed from around the end flange of a pipeline or hose. It is used to aid in the containment of any leaking fluid from the end flange, such escaping fluid being collected in a drip barrel or the like. The shield incorporates a housing, open at the bottom, with a notch in the front wall for a pipeline to pass through. The housing is fastened to the pipeline by selectively engaging or disengaging the outer circumference of the end flange with an adjustable open annular ring or strap. A window may be included in the top wall of the housing of this shield so that the user can view the end flange prior to installation and/or removal.

  • Patent number: 5871056
Abstract: A method and apparatus generates slack in a tensioned cable upon the presence of flame or excessive heat in a predetermined area. The apparatus comprises an enclosure having first, second, and third openings therein with the tensioned cable extending between the first and second openings; a pulley positioned on the cable intermediate the first and second openings the pulley having an eyelet extending therefrom; and a fusible disc secured to the third opening with the fusible disc having a hook extending therefrom and into the enclosure. The hook is attached to the eyelet of the pulley for restraining the pulley, and hence the tensioned cable, in a nonlinear or offset position with respect to the first and second openings. The fusible disc comprises a melting alloy which, upon reaching a known temperature level, undergoes a change in physical properties so as to allow the fusible disc to separate, thereby releasing restraint on the pulley and hence introducing slack into the tensioned cable.

  • Patent number: 5814000
Abstract: A pivotable brace for adjustably supporting a user's joint, such as a knee joint, at a variety of different angles as desired. The restraint imposed by this brace upon the joint can also be released thereby permitting the joint to further bend or flex as needed but which will return to its original setting by returning the joint back to its originally braced position. Preferably, a pair of such braces will be secured to opposite sides of the joint to be braced for maximum support and restraint.

  • Patent number: 5692866
Abstract: A method and apparatus for binding books wherein a stack of pages are collated and aligned together. This stack is covered, top and bottom, with end pages which now comprise the first and last pages of the stack. Each end page includes a self-adhesive or sticky-back surface that is temporarily covered with a protective sheet. This stack is inserted within a clasp that is subsequently crimped, thereby securely binding the stack together. The crimped stack is then placed within an outer case or covering whereupon the protective sheet is removed and adhesive is exposed and applied to the case in order to secure or bind the pages to the case. Final compression of the case insures proper adhesion.

  • Patent number: 5690603
Abstract: A self-retaining erogenic simulator that provides simultaneous stimulation to both users thereof, whether they be of the same sex or of the opposite sex. This simulator is configured with a first phallic end which is used in the normal manner and a second bulbous end which is inserted within the vaginal or anal cavity of the wearing partner. This bulbous end is shaped with a neck-down region that enables this device to be held in place during use by the wearers' muscle groups without the need for straps or the like. Also, adjacent the base of the phallic end may be raised nubs which are designed for the clitoral stimulation of the wearing partner (when such partner is female) whether the device is inserted vaginally or anally. A hollowed-out area in the base can hold vibrating means for increased stimulation; or a fluid chamber within the apparatus allows the flow of fluid therein to increase stimulation.

  • Patent number: 5681458
Abstract: An oil/water separator that employs a rotatable drum for separating oil or other contaminants from a fluid, usually water. This drum is partially immersed within the oil containing fluid such that by its rotation therethrough, an oil film adheres to its outer periphery. A blade assembly scrapes or wipes this film from this outer periphery and gathers such film in an adjacent collection trough.

  • Patent number: 5645129
Abstract: A dispenser reel assembly for automatically dispensing a fire extinguisher upon activation. This dispenser reel assembly is typically supported from an overhead support well above the floor, thereby protecting the fire extinguisher from damage and/or theft. To operate the assembly, a release plate covering a lower opening of a supporting frame is removed, thereby permitting the cable, and hence the suspended fire extinguisher, to be dispensed from the reel assembly via gravity. Typically, the fire extinguisher will come to rest about eight (8') feet above the floor so as not to inadvertently cause injury or damage. To lower the extinguisher further, a short retrieve rope is used to pull the extinguisher downwardly so that the extinguisher can either be used or removed from the dispenser reel assembly for use and/or inspection.
