  • Patent number: 4517731
Abstract: A process is disclosed for fabricating complementary n and p channel insulated gate field effect transistors. The process uses two layers of polycrystalline silicon 32 and 44 to provide electrical interconnections, and allows the formation of microcapacitors between the two layers of polycrystalline silicon. In addition silicon dioxide and silicon nitride, and two layers of photoresist, are used as masks against heavy boron implantations. The reliability of ohmic connections between aluminum 50 and contact regions in the substrate is enhanced by providing additional dopant to the contact regions. In this way, the junction depth is increased and electrical defects caused by metal spiking are minimized.

  • Patent number: 4370737
Abstract: A sense amplifier for determining the binary logic state of a dynamic memory cell (11.sub.x,y) preamplifies an initial voltage difference established between a first input line (17.sub.y) coupled to the memory cell (11.sub.x,y) and a first reference line (18.sub.y) coupled to a reference cell (32.sub.y). The resulting amplifies voltage difference is generated between a second input line (19) coupled through a coupling device (Q51.sub.y) to the first input line (17.sub.y) and a second reference line (20) coupled through another coupling device (Q52.sub.y) to the first reference line (18.sub.y) by capacitively charging the second lines (19 and 20) preferably with a pair of capacitors (C61 and C62) individually coupled to the second lines (19 and 20). A differential sensing device (90) senses the amplified voltage difference to determine the logic state which is fully restored to the memory cell (11.sub.x,y).

  • Patent number: 4302328
Abstract: A process is provided for treating spent geothermal brine to remove silica. The process includes introducing the brine into the reaction zone of a reactor-clarifier and allowing the brine to flow therefrom into the clarification zone of the reactor-clarifier. In the clarification zone, particles settle from the brine and are urged to the center of the tank beneath the reaction zone, and the settled particles are drawn upwardly into the reaction zone by an impeller. The particles mix with the brine in the reaction zone to form a substantially uniform distribution therein to provide nuclei for silica precipitation from the brine. A stream of sludge is removed from the bottom of the reactor-clarifier and disposed of.

  • Patent number: 4248671
Abstract: A system and method are provided for dry quenching coke while simultaneously eliminating pollutants emitted during coke pushing and quenching operations. The method includes pushing the hot coke from a coke oven into a hooded, mobile coke quench car, drawing the pollutants emitted during the push downwardly through the hot coke contained in the quench car to oxidize the pollutants and produce an inert combustion gas, cooling the hot inert gas and utilizing the heat recovered from the gas, cleaning the cooled inert gas, and returning the cooled cleaned inert gas to the quench car for further passage through the hot coke.
