    Abstract: A bridge circuit contains a photoelectric resistor positioned behind the diaphragm and thus having a resistance varying as a function of the light falling on the film. A second arm of the bridge circuit contains a resistor. The bridge circuit output is connected to the inputs of a differential amplifier whose output controls a step motor which adjusts the size of the aperture until the bridge is balanced. For fade-out, an additional resistor is inserted in the second arm by opening a short-circuiting switch, thus causing the bridge to become unbalanced and the step motor to change the aperture until it is again in balance. This balance will take place at a predetermined low illumination suitable for fade-out. Closing the switch will result in fade-in, namely an opening of the aperture until the circuit is again in balance. The output signal from the bridge circuit thus controls the aperture even during fade-in and fade-out.

For television channel polling, a control signal signifying an operative television receiver is also put on the telephone line and, at the central computing station computer circuits compute the percentage of television sets tuned to any given channel.

The output signals may be stored until receipt of the next subsequent control signal.

    Abstract: Thermoplastic materials, such as polyvinylchoride, cannot normally be heat bonded to certain higher-melting synthetic fabrics, such as nylon or the like, which are of the densely woven type and are also frequently treated with silicone or analogous substances to make them water repellant and/or windproof. The present method overcomes this problem by heat-bonding such materials under pressure and the application of a dielectric field, and by causing sufficient dielectric resistance to be present at the synthetic fabric so that the dielectric field is able to heat the synthetic fabric to a temperature at which it becomes sufficiently flowable to bond with the thermoplastic material.
