  • Patent number: 8037571
Abstract: A vacuum cleaner accessory tool for use with a vacuum cleaner. The accessory tool includes a nozzle body defining a chamber. An agitator having a first end portion and a second end portion is rotatably supported within the chamber of the nozzle body, and the agitator is removably coupled to the nozzle body. A drive member is coupled to the agitator, and a release member is coupled to the nozzle body and slidable with respect to the nozzle body between an engaged position and a disengaged position. In the engaged position, the release member engages the second end portion of the agitator to couple the agitator to the nozzle body within the chamber. In the disengaged position, the release member allows the agitator to be removed from the chamber of the nozzle body.

  • Patent number: 7750413
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to mount both a RF circuit including an inductor formed therein and a digital circuit on a single chip. MOSFETs are formed on a semiconductor substrate 1 in regions isolated by an element isolation film 2. A plurality of low-permittivity insulator rods including a low-permittivity insulator embedded therein and penetrating a first interlevel dielectric film 4 to reach the internal of the silicon substrate are disposed in the RF circuit area 100. An inductor 40 is formed on the interlevel dielectric film in the RF circuit area by using multi-layered interconnects. A high-permeability isolation region in which a composite material including a mixture of high-permeability material and a low-permittivity material is formed in the region of the core of the inductor and periphery thereof.

  • Patent number: 6910322
Abstract: A lawnmower comprising a mower deck having a discharge outlet for discharging grass clippings. The mower deck includes an aperture and slot defined by the mower deck adjacent opposite sides of the discharge outlet. A chute is pivotally connected to the mower deck above the discharge outlet and may pivot between a stowed condition and an operable condition. An extension portion is removably connectable to the mower deck adjacent the discharge outlet. The extension portion includes a fixed pin engageable with the aperture and a latch engageable with the slot. The latch is movable between an engaged position, in which the latch engages the slot, and a disengaged position, in which the latch is removed from the slot. The extension portion extends beyond the chute while the chute is in the stowed condition. A grass catcher is connectable to extension portion opposite the mower deck.

  • Patent number: 6804954
Abstract: An exhaust system for use with a four-stroke engine having first and second cylinders. The cylinders generate exhaust pulses at uneven time intervals with respect to each other. The exhaust system includes a muffler and first and second exhaust pipes that communicate between the mufflers and the first and second cylinders, respectively. The first and second pipes being sized and shaped to deliver the exhaust pulses to the muffler at even time intervals with respect to each other.

  • Patent number: 6560949
Abstract: A method of handling an object using a robot end effector. The method includes providing a robot having an end effector supporting a pair of carriages, providing a pair of fingers for each carriage, moving the end effector over an object, grasping an object with the fingers, moving the object with the end effector to a container, and depositing the object by counter-rotating the pairs of fingers. One or both of the carriages is movable toward the other carriage to engage objects on a conveyor system with the fingers. The robot moves the end effector between the conveyor system and shipping containers for shipping the objects. Because the pairs of fingers counter-rotate, the friction forces between each finger and the tray is offset by the friction forces between the other finger in the pair and the tray. The improved handling method thereby maintains objects substantially in the desired stacking orientation within the shipping container. Preferably, an actuator is provided for each finger.

  • Patent number: 6270970
Abstract: Mixed-bed solid phases are provided, with methods for using such solid phases to isolate target nucleic acids, such as plasmid DNA, chromosomal DNA, RNA, or nucleic acids generated by enzymatic amplification from contaminants, including proteins, lipids, cellular debris, or other nucleic acids. The mixed-bed solid phases of this invention are mixtures of at least two different solid phases, each of which has a capacity to bind to the target nucleic acid under different solution conditions, and the capacity to release the nucleic acid under similar elution conditions. By exchanging solution conditions according to the methods of this invention, one can remove contaminants from the target nucleic acid bound to the mixed-bed solid phase, then elute the target nucleic acid in an elution buffer.

  • Patent number: 6103481
Abstract: A method for evaluating sperm quality is disclosed. The first step of the method is to obtain a quantity of sample mammalian sperm and a sample of mature mammalian oocytes. The oocytes are fertilized with the sperm and the cumulus cells are removed from the fertilized oocytes. The oocytes are then labelled with antibodies directed to microtubules and the labelled microtubules are observed microscopically. The microtubule pattern is evaluated for microtubule aster size and organization. In one preferred from of the present invention, the mammalian sperm and mammalian oocytes are of the same species. In another preferred form of the present invention, the mammalian sperm and oocytes are of different species.

  • Patent number: 6047667
Abstract: A lubrication system for a motorcycle engine includes a camshaft support plate that is separable from an ornamental cam cover. The camshaft support plate at least partially defines a cam chest of the engine. A crankcase defines a crankcase sump and the cam chest defines a cam chest sump. A divider wall is disposed between the crankcase sump and the cam chest sump to prevent oil from draining from one sump into the other. An oil pump is mounted on the camshaft support plate, with a pressure chamber of the oil pump being at least partially defined by the camshaft support plate. The oil pump independently draws oil from the crankcase sump and the cam chest sump through a split-kidney intake assembly. Oil pumped from the sumps is delivered to a reservoir, and is then drawn back out of the reservoir by the oil pump and delivered to components of the engine through a series of oil passages, some of which are defined by the camshaft support plate.

  • Patent number: RE41335
Abstract: Improved internal combustion engine, particularly, an improved two-stroke, diesel aircraft engine. A first improvement includes a wrist pin/connection rod assembly. A plurality of fasteners extend through a wall of a wrist pin and into a wrist pin insert to secure the wrist pin to a cradle-like portion of a connecting rod. A second improvement includes a fuel injection system which cools fuel injectors with overflow fuel from a fuel pump. The overflow fuel is warmed as it cools the fuel injectors, thereby preventing ice-build up on a fuel filter in cold weather as the overflow fuel is recirculated to the fuel pump. A third improvement includes a new cylinder head cooling arrangement. The cylinder head and a cooling cap define an annular cooling passageway. Cooling fluid flows through the annular cooling passageway to cool the cylinder head. The cooling cap includes an inlet port and an outlet port which are not diametrically opposed.
