Abstract: This invention is related to the preparation of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). Specifically, it relates to the fluorination of a compound of the formula:CF.sub.y Cl.sub.3-y CH.sub.2 CHF.sub.w Cl.sub.2-wwherein w=0 or 1, and y=0-3, with hydrogen fluoride in the presence of a fluorination catalyst under conditions sufficient to produce a compound of the formula CF.sub.3 CH.sub.2 CF.sub.2 H.CF.sub.3 CH.sub.2 CF.sub.2 H or HFC 245fa may be used as a blowing agent, a propellant, and a heat transfer agent.

Abstract: Stable aqueous coemulsions of oxidized polyethylene with amino functional silicone fluids which includes at least one constituent selected from the group consisting of; ethoxylated aliphatic amines, ethoxylated nonylphenols, ethoxylated primary alcohols, ethoxylated secondary alcohols or other nonionic emulsifiers are taught, as well as processes for making the same. The coemulsions may also comprise further constituents, including but not limited to fatty acids, ammonium hydroxide, salts and water. The coemulsions find use in conjunction with textile processing and paper processing.

Abstract: There is provided in accordance with the present invention polyphenylene ether/polyalkyleneterephthalamide compositions of high dimensional stabilities that are suitable for high temeprature applications comprising from about 20 to about 70 weight % of a functionalized polyphenylene ether; from about 20 to about 70 weight % of a polyalkyleneterephthalamide, wherein the polyalkyleneterephthalamide is derived from terephthalic acid and an .alpha.,.omega.-alkanediamine having 10 to 14 methylene groups; and from about 0 to about 20 weight % of a functionalized elastomeric polymer, wherein the blend absorbs less than 2 wt % of moisture and has a dimensional growth in water of less than 0.5%.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a process of preparing multicyanate esters by: a) reacting an adduct of a tertiary amine and a phenol-formaldehyde oligomer or derivative thereof with cyanogen halide in a solvent reaction medium under conditions to form a reaction product stream containing at least one of the following compounds selected from the group consisting of tertiary amine-hydrohalide salt, solvent, and impurities, and, based upon the total weight of the reaction product stream excluding the weight of said tertiary amine-hydrohalide salt, from about 10 percent to about 40 percent of a multicyanate ester; b) recycling a portion of said reaction product stream into the mixture of step a; and c) separating and recovering said solvent and tertiary amine from said reaction product stream.The multicyanate ester products produced according to the present invention are useful as bonding agents in friction materials, molding materials, coatings, and adhesives.
Abstract: This invention relates to polymeric interpenetrating blends comprising a polymer matrix having dispersed therein a branched fractal three dimensional polymer species which comprises rigid aromatic recurring units linked by electrophilic or nucleophilic reactive moieties or derivatives thereof.
Abstract: Process for the production of PCTFE homopolymer and/or copolymer resins by the use of an aqueous suspension system incorporating a redox initiator system which comprises t-butyl hydroperoxide and sodium metabisulfite to initiate the polymerization or copolymerization process. The process parameters may be controlled to provide a PCTFE homopolymer or copolymer resin having a desired target range of molecular weights. The process provides stable PCTFE polymer suspensions which exhibit a low tendency to coagulate and further exhibit good wettability of the homopolymer and copolymer particles, notably in the absence of soaps.

Abstract: Compositions comprising polyalkylene terephthalate, polyethylene and a compatibilizer copolymer of a C.sub.2 -C.sub.10 alpha-olefin and a glycidyl or isocyanate group-containing functional compound, wherein the functional compound comprises about 0.4 to about 50 weight percent of the compatibilizer copolymer, provide improved impact properties and heat resistance. The compositions feature improved compatibility of polyalkylene terephthalate and polyethylene, and are useful in forming a wide variety of articles therefrom.
