Abstract: Survivin Interacting Protein 1 and polynucleotides and methods for producing such polypeptides by recombinant techniques are disclosed. Also disclosed are methods for utilizing SIP-1 polypeptides and polynucleotides in diagnostic assays.

Abstract: Para-xylene is produced from a paraselective toluene disproportionation reactor, effluent (3) is distilled to eliminate toluene and benzene in at least 2 distillation columns (C1), (C2), and the xylenes (8) are crystallized at least once (10) at between +10.degree. C. and -30.degree. C. The separated mother liquor (14) is adsorbed on a zeolitic sieve in the presence of toluene in a simulated moving bed (15). This latter produces a raffinate (16) containing toluene which is depleted in para-xylene which is distilled in a distillation column (C4), and an extract which is enriched in para-xylene and contains toluene, which is recycled to columns (C1, C2). The para-xylene crystals are purified by washing with toluene and distillation or by partial melting (30) followed by washing with molten high purity para-xylene.
Abstract: A polymer comprising recurring units of formula (1) is provided wherein some of the hydrogen atoms of phenolic hydroxyl groups and/or alcoholic hydroxyl groups are replaced by acid labile groups. The polymer is crosslinked within a molecule and/or between molecules with a crosslinking group having a C--O--C linkage resulting from reaction of some of the remaining phenolic hydroxyl groups and/or alcoholic hydroxyl groups with an alkenyl ether compound or halogenated alkyl ether compound. The amount of the acid labile group and the crosslinking group combined is on the average from more than 0 mol % to 80 mol % of the entirety of the phenolic hydroxyl group and alcoholic hydroxyl group. The polymer has Mw of 1,000-500,000. ##STR1## R.sup.1 is H or methyl, R.sup.2 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, letter x is 0 or a positive integer, y is a positive integer, x+y.ltoreq.5, letters p and q are positive numbers satisfying p+q=1 and 0<q/(p+1).ltoreq.0.9.
Abstract: Provided is a hydrogen absorbing alloy electrode having on a conductive support surface a hydrogen absorbing alloy layer which comprises a hydrogen absorbing alloy powder capable of absorbing and desorbing hydrogen electrochemically and a binder; with the hydrogen absorbing alloy layer having a surface coated spotwise with an amorphous water-repelling fluoropolymer at a total coverage of 0.001 mg/cm.sup.2 to 5 mg/cm.sup.2, wherein a solution of the fluoropolymer in a solvent having a boiling point of 50.degree.-110.degree. C. is spray-coated on the alloy layer surface.
