  • Patent number: 8313793
Abstract: The invention relates to read/write methods for information hidden from visual perception and can be used to visualize hidden images of identification of an object, which provide protection against unauthorized reproduction. The surface of the object is first polished. An optically invisible marking image is formed on the polished surface by modifying at least one area of the surface, which changes the surface energy of modified sites. Said marking image is visualized by establishing a meta-stable environment in the vicinity of the aforementioned surface of the object. The marking image is produced in the form of distinguished structures formed by stable phase particles of the meta-stable environment at the sites of the object surface having different surface energy. Prior to performing a visualization process of the optically invisible marking image, the surface containing the modified areas is electrically-charged and cleaned by friction.

  • Patent number: 8304093
Abstract: A weld set-up and weld process are provided that alleviate micro-cracking as between a pair of welded pieces. The weld set-up is provided in which the weld pieces are configured to cause micro-cracking to occur in a portion of the welded pieces that is then removed by post-processing machining techniques. This weld set-up includes a primary weld piece and a secondary weld piece with a flange portion that extends over the primary weld piece. When used in conjunction with electron beam welding, application of the weld beam onto the secondary weld piece causes the formation of a preferential nailhead that is formed exclusively in the first weld piece.

  • Patent number: 8287256
Abstract: Although modern diesel fuel formulations are intended to reduce emissions of diesel engines, at least some of those modern fuels tend to have relatively low lubricity levels. The control valve assemblies described herein help to minimize any increased wear that would otherwise result from the use of such low lubricity fuels by providing a valve element, a valve guide, and an insert. The valve element is received within the valve guide and is moveable between an open position and a closed position. The insert forms a first sealed interface and a second sealed interface with the valve element and the valve guide. When the valve element is in the closed position, both of the first sealed interface and the second sealed interface are engaged. When the valve element is in the open position, only one of the first sealed interface and the second sealed interface is engaged.
