Patent number: 3967863Abstract: A control for brakes in trailer vehicles comprising a circuit providing pulsed signals to the brakes. It is preferred that the time or width of each pulse is equal but the frequency of brake pulsing is increased in accord with inertially sensed stress. The frequency of signal is directly related to the movement of a dampened cantilever beam which normally blocks the passage of light to a light sensitive target or monitor but wherein the passage of light increases and is attenuated by the beam as the beam moves, under inertial imbalance, to permit added light to be sensed. In addition, the control circuit, vulnerable to short circuits in the vehicle circuit from control element to brakes, is continuously monitored by a disconnect element which senses the existence of the short circuit and accomplishes a disabling of current through the control circuit at a threshold to avoid injury to the control circuit.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1974Date of Patent: July 6, 1976Assignee: Tekonsha Engineering CompanyInventors: Jerry J. Patent number: 3963442Abstract: Colorimetric indicator compositions and their method of manufacture. A first reagent composition is included in the indicator compositions so that when a second reagent composition is applied to an exposed surface of the indicator compositions a reaction occurs to produce a color change. The indicator compositions include as one component a thermoplastic resin which is soluble in a liquid carrier for the second reagent composition at ambient temperatures. Particularly preferred indicator compositions incorporate a particulate coloring or contrast agent in the resin which, when the liquid carrier containing the second reagent composition is applied on an exposed surface of the indicator compositions containing the first reagent composition, dissolves the resin at the surface to provide a contrasting color background of dispersed particles in the liquid carrier.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1974Date of Patent: June 15, 1976Inventors: Wade A. Patent number: 3951175Abstract: A method for forming integral internal channels defined by a wall with an annular cross-section inside high softening temperature glass tubing is described. In particular, a reduced pressure is provided inside a rotating tube with heating outside which softens the glass for deformation by the reduced pressure while a smaller tube is maintained in position in contact with the inside walls of the larger tube. The pressure in the smaller tube is usually the same as that in the larger tube and is such that it can collapse at the point of contact to form at least one fusion band along the inside wall of the larger tube. The position of the smaller tube is maintained such that the larger tube has concave depressions between the fusion bands. Usually the heating is accomplished by a gas flame ring burner positioned under the larger tube and moved progressively along the larger tube until the desired fusion of the tubes is completed.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1974Date of Patent: April 20, 1976Inventor: Wolfgang R. Patent number: 3945586Abstract: A locker retractor for seat belt harness and the like which includes an interposer element articulated by movement of the drum or reel to selectively block or release a spring biased pawl bar and holding the pawl bar away from locking a ratchet on one or both of the reel flanges or selectively freeing the pawl bar so that it may lock the ratchet in prevention of further drum rotation in the withdrawal direction. The shift from blocking to non-blocking position is achieved by a slight retraction of the webbing after initial free withdrawal, whereupon the interposer element falls free of its blocking relation. The interposer is a latch-like element pivotally and slidably connected to the frame and oriented and frictionally directed by a ring element turned by the moving of the drum. The interposer described is also useful in providing quiet free-pull and retraction in inertial retractors as described in copending application Ser. No. 258,576 filed on June 1, 1972 now U.S. Pat.
