  • Patent number: 6191302
Abstract: An alkyl nitrite can be produced on an industrial scale with a high efficiency and with a low yield of by-products by the process wherein nitrogen oxide-containing feed gas is brought into an alkyl alcohol liquid in a distillation column reactor while circulating a liquid fraction, produced in the reactor and containing the alkyl alcohol, through a circulation path including a lower section of the reactor and a cooler to remove the reaction heat vigorously generated in the reactor, and while controlling the weight ratio of the circulating liquid fraction to the total alkyl alcohol fed into the reactor to 50:1 to 200:1, the molar ratio of the total alkyl alcohol fed to the reactor and contained in the circulating liquid fraction to nitrogen oxide in the feed gas to 20:1 to 150:1, and the content of the alkyl alcohol in the liquid fraction to 15 to 60% by weight; and the resultant gas fraction containing the target alkyl nitrite is collected from the reactor.

  • Patent number: 6189547
Abstract: A sensor chamber is formed a side portion of a liquid supply inlet of a housing, a sound pressure sensor is mounted in the sensor chamber, ultrasonic waves from an ultrasonic vibrator provided in the housing are detected by the sound pressure sensor, and a defect of the ultrasonic vibrator is detected when the output of the sound pressure sensor becomes less than a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 6191235
Abstract: The invention concerns a dispersion powder composition which is redispersible in water and is made from water-insoluble organic polymers, the composition being characterized in that it contains 0.1 to 30% by wt., relative to the weight of the organic polymers, of one ormore silicon compounds which are dispersible in water and which have a boiling point at normal pressure of 160° C., selected from the group comprising the silanes, polysilanes, oligosiloxanes, carbosilanes, polycarbosilanes, carbosiloxanes, polycarbosiloxanes and polysilylenedisiloxanes. The invention also concerns methods for manufacturing such compositions and their use.

  • Patent number: 6187861
Abstract: A process is provided for preparing crosslinkable binders in the form of the aqueous dispersions by polymerizing vinyl ester-olefin copolymers in the presence of protective colloid, which comprises polymerizing vinyl ester-olefin copolymers having a Tg of less than −10° C. by emulsion polymerization in the presence of a protective colloid based on (meth)acrylate polymers comprising from 80 to 95% by weight, based on the overall weight of the polymer, of acrylates or methacrylates of aliphatic alcohols of 1 to 12 carbon atoms and from 5 to 20% by weight, based on the overall weight of the copolymer, of ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acids, the latter copolymer having a glass transition temperature Tg of from 60 to 120° C., and, after the end of polymerization, introducing the crosslinkable groups by reacting the carboxyl groups of the (meth)acrylate polymers with ethylenically unsaturated compounds comprising functions suitable for esterifying the carboxyl group.

  • Patent number: 6186514
Abstract: A gasket having a surface thereof coated with an elastic membrane and adapted to be interposed, together with a valve plate and a discharge valve member, between a cylinder block and a housing of a refrigerant compressor under compression. The gasket includes an outer sealing portion for sealing an outer circumference of the compressor against an atmospheric environment therearound, and an inner sealing portion, connected to the outer sealing portion, for sealing between a high pressure region and a low pressure region within the compressor. Each of the outer and inner sealing portions includes in its entirety a deformable ridge which is shaped as a convexly curved projection with an apex line continuously extending along a length of the each outer and inner sealing portion. When the gasket is located in a proper position in the compressor, the apex lines of the ridges of the respective sealing portions are abutted to the front or rear housing of the compressor.

  • Patent number: 6183913
Abstract: An alkaline battery separator comprising a hydrophilic nonwoven fabric obtainable by heat-fusing and hydro-entangling (1) polyolefin dividable composite fibers having an average fiber length of 20 to 60 mm, (2) high-strength fibers having an average fiber length of 30 to 60 mm and a fiber strength of 5 g/denier or more, and (3) polyolefin heat-sensitive-adhesive fibers having an average fiber length of 30 to 60 mm, to obtain a heat-fused and hydro-entangled nonwoven fabric by a dry-laid method, and imparting a hydrophilic property to the resulting heat-fused and hydro-entangled nonwoven fabric; these high-strength fibers accounting for 20 to 45 mass % with respect to a total mass of the polyolefin dividable composite fibers, the high-strength fibers and the polyolefin heat-sensitive-adhesive fibers. The alkaline battery separator exhibits an excellent breaking strength, and has practical and sufficient tensile strength and electrolyte-holding capacity properties.

  • Patent number: 6171708
Abstract: A porous article wherein a sulfur containing atomic group is introduced onto at least a part of outer-inner surfaces of the article, a ratio (S/C) of the number of sulfur atoms (S) to the number of carbon atoms (C) on the surface onto which the sulfur containing atomic group is introduced is 7×10−4 or more, a ratio (O/C) of the number of oxygen atoms (O) to the number of carbon atoms (C) on the surface onto which the sulfur containing atomic group is introduced is 0.2 or more, and the ratio (S/C) and the ratio (O/C) are determined by means of an X-ray photoelectron spectrophotometer is disclosed.
