  • Patent number: 5031956
Abstract: A clamp used in securing a tarpaulin over a truck which has upper, open entranceway closed off by clamping lever that is biassed for urging the clamping portion into its clamping state where the clamping portion is positioned in close juxtaposition to the upper open entranceway. Each side wall has an extended slot, each slot having a open end opening into the upper entranceway. Means accessible exteriorly of the main housing for causing rotation of the clamping lever into its unclamping position is also provided, whereby a skirt portion of a tarpaulin or the like, may be inserted into the entranceway and into the first open ends of the slots and clamped by the clamping portion of the clamping lever. The rear wall has a downwardly-extending portion and a hole formed in it for receiving a cord therethrough, whereby the clamp may be secured to the frame of a truck and the like.

  • Patent number: 5029372
Abstract: An improved shoelace with an inner core of copper wire strands encased in a cover of clear polyvinylchloride, which is contained in an outer jacket or casing of polypropylene fiber. When the shoelace of the invention is threaded through a shoe and then tied into a bow, it retains its shape and does not become untied by itself. The bow may also twisted, turned, or otherwise shaped so as to further prevent the untying of the shoe by the fact of the retention of that shape by means of the inner core of twisted copper strands.

  • Patent number: 5027716
Abstract: An improved swing-motion truck in which the transom has been replaced by a pair of transverse radius or tie rods for coupling the two rocker seats of the two side frames of the truck. The ends of the rods are directly coupled to anchor brackets formed as part of the side-frame rocker seats via an elastomeric connection. The suspension springs of the railway freight car truck are seated directly upon the upper flat surface of the two rocker seats of the side frames of the truck, so that lighter-weight freight cars may be accommodated, without a friction-dependent coupling between the rocker seats and rods interconnecting the rocker seats, and where an overall lower height truck results to provide a low-deck car. The cooperating limit stops for lateral motion of the truck are mounted directly on the rocker seats themselves.

  • Patent number: 5027545
Abstract: The present invention relates to a new and useful improvement in the field of sport fishing whereby a sinker that is commonly used for casting purposes is improved upon by allowing the weight component of the sinker to be removed or exchanged for weights of different mass without damage to the line or weight. The invention eliminates the time consuming steps commonly associated with salvaging the fishing line or weight during removal, exchange, and provides an inexpensive releasing device when the sinker becomes irretrievably snagged on a submerged object.

  • Patent number: 5026431
Abstract: A process for koshering relatively large metallic containers used to store and transport kosher foods includes the steps of washing and rinsing the interior of the container to remove surface oils and greases, treating the interior surface of the container with a rust inhibitor, flame treating the interior surface to drive off any impregnated oils, greases or dirts and, optionally, spraying the interior of the container with a kosher epoxy/phenolic compound and thereafter curing the compound by the application of heat. The resulting container may be used to store and transport food stuffs certified to have been prepared in accordance with the kosher dietary laws. • Patent number: 5022625
Abstract: A novel storage container is provided that is capable of continual reuse, which novel container may be easily and readily stored on substantially any vertical surface in a home, office, business, and the like. The novel container has a rearwardly-facing concave-shaped cutout or depression formed in the rear surface thereof, which cutout or depression is used for receiving therein, in a force-fit manner, an enlarged sphere or convex-shaped knob secured to a vertical surface, such as a wall or door, by which the container may be removably mounted to such vertical surface, for subsequent removal therefrom when it is needed to dispense the contents of the container.

  • Patent number: 5009610
Abstract: A protective guard for use with a wall-mounted light switch in order to keep the light switch in the desired "on" or "off" state. The guard is a pivotal arm having at one end an opening for receiving one of the mounting screws of the light switch, by which the guard is pivotally connected to the wall plate of the light switch. When it is desired to allow access to and operation of the light switch, the guard is pivoted out of the way. The same general principle of the invention applies to a guard for selectively closing off a wall plug outlet.

  • Patent number: 5008519
Abstract: A manufacturers' coupon redemption system that is electronically controlled, and compatible in any supermarket using Universal Product Codes. The system includes a newly-styled, uniform coupon, with special bar code indicia redeemable on up to three families of products. At the supermarket, a special device for reading the coupons is provided that reads the coupons presented by the consumer. The system verifies that the consumer did, in fact, purchase the items specified, that the coupon has not expired, and other validation conditions. The unit communicates the results of the validation to the cash register for credit to the consumer's bill. The accepted coupon is then mutiliated to prevent reuse.

  • Patent number: 5007530
Abstract: The invention relates to the use of one piece foldable boxes in the area of packaging, in particular the use of a single piece foldable and disposable boxes for the packaging of cat litter material. The invention employs a novel cover and hinge member that folds beneath the lower portion of the box for storage. The box effectively seals the contents while in a closed position with double wall thickness and a latching mechanism that doubles as a carrying device on larger boxes. The design permits uniformity of tolerance throughout box sizes and construction materials. The box includes a lower box body (or base), four side walls integrally attached to the base, and a cover (or top) with three sides that is connected to the lower box body by a novel hinge member that creates a fourth side wall to the cover only when the box is in a closed position.
