Patent number: 8282903Abstract: A processes for the regeneration of a silver nitrate and nitric acid based electrolyte as used in certain silver refining processes is based on the hydrolytic removal of undesired metal-based compounds such as water insoluble hydrolysable base metal cations and water insoluble hydrolysable base metal nitrates from which the soluble silver nitrate and nitric acid based electrolyte may be separated. Water is added slowly to a dewatered electrolyte melt held at a predetermined, elevated, temperature while allowing nitric acid thereby formed to evolve and be separated from the melt while the water insoluble base metal salts are formed. The melt is then diluted with water to dilute the silver nitrate contained therein and the insoluble base metal salts are separated from the mixture by filtration.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2008Date of Patent: October 9, 2012Assignee: Royal Canadian MintInventors: Bryn Harris, Carl White, Vicken Aprahamian

Patent number: 8267448Abstract: A backup tong that comprises an activating mechanism for advancing a jaw die mounted on a jaw carrier within the backup into engagement with a pipe positioned centrally therein. The jaw carrier is fitted within the tong body to permit a sliding action radially toward the center point of the opening in the backup tong. Such mechanism includes a cam surface located along a first extension of a cam arm which pivots around a fixed pivot pin carried by the body of the backup. The other extension of the cam arm is connected toward its outer end to an actuator, anchored at one end to the backup body and oriented at the other end to swing the cam arm about the pivot pin.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2010Date of Patent: September 18, 2012Assignee: McCoy CorporationInventors: Dan Dagenais, Murray Gerwing, Steven Hargreaves

Patent number: 8184832Abstract: An acoustic transducer, specifically an electrostatic loudspeaker (ESL) providing curvature in two directions for improved dispersion of sound waves. The compound curvature also provides a virtual focus of the propagated sound waves for accurate reproduction of musical program material recorded with standard single-point microphones. The highly directional nature of high frequency sound waves requires that a flat or cylindrical electrostatic transducer must be physically tall to allow a listener to either recline or stand. The two-axis curved structure enables a compact form of ESL to be realized, including bookshelf type loudspeakers whereas all known commercial units are comparable in height to that of a human listener. The individual curved ESL panels can also be readily combined to create larger transducer assemblies including omni-directional units.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2007Date of Patent: May 22, 2012Inventor: Murray R. Patent number: 8066833Abstract: A novel non-toxic IR tracer composition is provided herein which, when incorporated into an IR tracer projectile which is then fired, generates a dim visibility IR trace. Such IR tracer composition is a non-toxic, boron-containing, IR tracer composition comprising: from about 20 to about 30% by weight, or from about 45 to about 60% by weight, of potassium perchlorate; from about 5 to about 16% by weight of a metallic fuel which consists of boron; from about 20 to about 25% by weight, or from about 40 to about 50% by weight, of a non-metallic fuel which consists of sodium salicylate; from about 5 to about 10% by weight of a retardant which consists either of iron carbonate or magnesium carbonate; and an effective amount of binder, wherein the total percentage of such ingredients add up to 100%. A novel IR tracer projectile containing such IR tracer composition for generating a dim visibility IR trace is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2006Date of Patent: November 29, 2011Assignee: General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems-Canada Inc.Inventors: Louise Guindon, Carol Jalbert, Daniel Lepage

Patent number: 8002490Abstract: A unitary, bent corner piece for a valance frame has an extending tongue at each end shaped to interfit the hollow cross-section of an adjacent, extruded, valance frame member. Complementary corner pieces so formed provide part of a valance interface between the lid and body of a container, ensuring sealing continuity around corners fitted with such corner pieces. Each corner piece is provided with a mating valance surface for presentation to the valance interface to provide an intimate engagement with the mating valance surface of the complementary, opposed corner piece. Gaskets fitted within the corner pieces may form part of the interface. Tongues formed a at the respective ends of a corner piece are provided with a groove to accommodate the inclusion of a gasket into the interior core of the longitudinal frame members.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2007Date of Patent: August 23, 2011Assignee: Impact Cases Inc.Inventor: James Gregory Hamlen

Patent number: 7985311Abstract: Novel non-toxic, heavy-metal free, zinc peroxide-containing, IR tracer compositions are provided herein, which, when incorporated into a medium caliber IR tracer projectile and fired, produce a dim visibility IR trace. Such IR tracer compositions comprise from about 65 to about 75% by weight, of zinc peroxide; from about 15 to about 25% by weight of a fuel which consists of sodium salicylate; and an effective amount of a binder which is selected from the group consisting of calcium resinate and cellulose acetate butyrate. The total percentage of the ingredients adds up to 100%. Medium caliber, i.e., 0.50 caliber, IR tracer projectiles containing such IR tracer compositions are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2007Date of Patent: July 26, 2011Assignee: General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems - Canada Inc.Inventors: Louise Guindon, Carol Jalbert, Daniel Lepage

Patent number: 7976038Abstract: A duplex trailing arm chassis support system has two longitudinal trailing arm members disposed on respective sides of the vehicle chassis and a structurally connecting cross member joining the two trailing arms to couple the movement of the two respective arms. Resilient cushioning members extend between each of the trailing arms and the underside of the vehicle chassis or between the connecting member and the vehicle chassis to provide resilient support to the vehicle chassis. Each trailing arm carries a wheel axle having wheels on both ends of the axle, each of the wheel axles being pivotally mounted to its respective trailing arm for rotational movement about the longitudinal axis of the trailing arm, allowing the axles to rock from side to side.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2009Date of Patent: July 12, 2011Assignee: Peerless LimitedInventor: John Stuart Gregg

Patent number: 7762160Abstract: An open-throat power tong for making up or breaking apart an oilfield tubular connection, includes a cage plate lock system. The lock system connected to each cage plate extends across the space provided by the open throat in the cage plate when locked in the closed position. This provides support for the cage plates, resisting their tendency for expansion. The cage plates are mounted on the ring gear for rotation about a common center. The support provided to the cage plates for resisting expansion is communicated to the ring gear, thus providing support to the ring gear against expansion.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2007Date of Patent: July 27, 2010Assignee: McCoy CorporationInventors: Hermann Basler, Jason Giebelhaus

Patent number: 7650256Abstract: An object locating system detects the presence of an object as it passes through a planar fields of view. A pair of optical sensor arrays with multiple, directed, pixel detectors observe the object from two angles as the object passes through the field of view. The location of penetration of the field of view is calculated by triangulation. Using this data, the known location of the take-off point and/or the delay between the departure of an object from the known take-off point and the penetration of the field of view, the trajectory of the object in time and space is calculated. In an alternate embodiment, the take-off point is not known and a plurality of pairs of optical sensor arrays may measure the trajectory of an object as it travels between a launch location and a target location.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2008Date of Patent: January 19, 2010Assignee: Dimitri Petrov Consultants Inc.Inventor: Dimitri Petrov
