  • Patent number: 8336038
Abstract: A computer system for executing a computer program on parallel processors, the system having a compiler for identifying within a computer program concurrency markers that indicate that code between them can be executed in parallel and should be executed with delayed side-effects; and an execution system that is operable to execute the code identified by the concurrency markers to generate a queue of side-effects and after execution of that code is completed, sequentially execute the queue of side-effects.

  • Patent number: 8335788
Abstract: An automated contiguous space identification feature for businesses is provided. Embodiments of the present invention provide a method and system of converting the value assigned to a work space in a coordinate system from an absolute position value to a unique relative position value. Such conversion enables identification of contiguous work spaces present within a defined area. An embodiment can be implemented via a stand-alone computing system or such a system interconnected with other platforms or data stores by a network, such as a corporate intranet, a local area network, or the Internet.

  • Patent number: 8329958
Abstract: A simple chain-extending approach was established for the scale-up of the monoprotected monodisperse PEG diol materials. Reactions of THP-(OCH2CH2)n—OMs (n=4, 8, 12) with a large excess of commercially available H—(OCH2CH2)n—OH (n=1-4) under basic conditions led to THP-(OCH2CH2)n—OH (n=5-15). Similarly, Me-(OCH2CH2)n—OH (n=4-11, 13) were prepared from Me-(OCH2CH2)n—OMs (n=3, 7, 11). For the chain elongation steps, 40-80% yields were achieved through extraction purification. PEG oligomer libraries I and II were generated in 50-95% overall yields by alkylation or acylation of THP-(OCH2CH2)n—OH (n=1-15) followed by deprotection. Alkylation of Me-(OCH2CH2)n—OH (n=1-11, 13) with X—(CH2)m—CO2R (X=Br or OMs) and subsequent hydrolysis led to PEG oligomer library III in 30-60% overall yields. Combinatorial purification techniques were adapted to the larger-scale library synthesis. A total of 498 compounds, each with a weight of 2-5 g and a minimum purity of 90%, were synthesized.

  • Patent number: 8328172
Abstract: A CNC system including a travelling drive bar assembly for support of material to be processed. A CNC system including a cutting tool operates on a work piece in at least three axes, with a gantry across the machine that a carriage moves along and a tool that moves vertically on the carriage. A drive bar, oriented perpendicularly to the gantry and to a vertical axis, may travel to support and move the workpiece along its line of orientation. The drive bar may include an elongated structural member, two tracks mounted longitudinally to the elongated member on opposite sides of the elongated member, and a rack, adapted to accept a pinion to urge the drive bar to move, also mounted longitudinally to the elongated member. Guide wheels may receive the tracks to support and align the drive bar. Rollers may further support material that is mounted to the drive bar.

  • Patent number: 8327365
Abstract: Throttling of an iterative process in a computer system is disclosed. Embodiments of the present invention focus on non-productive iterations of an iterative process in a computer system. The number of productive iterations of the iterative process during a current timeframe is determined while the iterative process is executing. A count of the number of process starts for the iterative process during the current timeframe is stored. The count can be normalized to obtain a number of units of work handled during the current timeframe. A throttling schedule can be calculated, and the throttling schedule can be stored in the computer system. The throttling schedule can then be used to determine a delay time between iterations of the iterative process for a new timeframe. A formula can be used to calculate the throttling schedule. The throttling schedule can be overridden in accordance with a service level agreement (SLA), as well as for other reasons.

  • Patent number: 8321860
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to systems, methods, and computer program products for remotely collecting data from the local storage of a machines. For example, embodiments of the method involve deploying a collection tool to the machine via a network, automatically installing the collection tool on the machine, generating a snapshot of the data, storing the snapshot in a storage area on the machine, and transmitting the data from the storage area to a remote collection server. Because the data is transmitted from the snapshot stored in the storage area rather than from the original data stored on the local storage of the machine, the data may be transmitted to the remote collection server without substantially affecting a user's ability to use the machine and interact with the data stored on the machine.

  • Patent number: 8320635
Abstract: Method and system to centrally monitor the quality of images of financial documents. Embodiments of the present invention can provide a way to monitor and evaluate the quality of images of financial documents stored for remote access by financial institutions. In some embodiments, a standard quality analysis of at least some of the images is performed, and, based on the quality analysis, suspect images are identified to a responsible entity. For at least some of the images, a decisioning result from the responsible entity is recorded in association with information identifying the images. The quality analysis can be applied based on exclusion criteria such as an amount threshold, certain routing information, etc. The suspect images can be identified by sending a quality results file to the responsible entity, and a decisioning result can be received in a decisioning results file.

  • Patent number: 8321363
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to systems, methods, and computer program products for evaluating and selecting technology. Specifically, present embodiments provide for assessing the relative importance of various capabilities and constraints to determine weighting factors and applying the weighting factors to potential technology solutions rated in terms of the applicability of the capabilities and constraints. The result is a capability fit score and a constraint fit score for each potential technology solution, which can be combined to form an overall technology fit score for each potential technology solution. Thus, present embodiments assess capabilities and constraints of various potential technology solutions and balance the capabilities and constraints to result in a quantitatively measurement of which technology solution is the best fit for the project at hand.
