  • Patent number: 8346148
Abstract: A fixing device thermally fixes an unfixed image on a recording sheet by passing the recording sheet through a fixing nip. The fixing device has: a heat-generating endless belt; a first pressure member inside a running path of the endless belt; a second pressure member pressing the endless belt against the first pressure member from outside the running path to form the fixing nip, and a pair of power feeders. The endless belt includes: a circumferential resistive heat layer that generates heat upon receiving electric current; and a first electrode and a second electrode flanking a sheet passing area of the circumferential surface of the endless belt. Each electrode is composed of a pair of electrode layers, one on the inner and another on the outer circumferential surface of the resistive heat layer. Each power feeder is in contact with both the electrode layers of a different electrode.

  • Patent number: 8345530
Abstract: Disclosed is an objective lens that favorably focuses multiple laser beams having different wavelengths on information recording layers of optical discs, and an optical pickup apparatus including the lens. The objective lens of the invention is provided with a first region for focusing laser beams of the BD, DVD and CD standards. The first region is provided with an annular zone step having a height calculated on the basis of a wavelength of the laser beam of the BD standard, and thus causes chromatic aberration of the laser beam of the DVD standard. This chromatic aberration corrects spherical aberration occurring due to a difference in thickness between coating layers of optical discs. In the invention, the curve surface shape of the first region is adjusted so that the BD and DVD standards can share the aberration for reducing the aberration of the laser beam of the DVD standard.

  • Patent number: 8344457
Abstract: Channel regions continuous with transistor cells are disposed also below a gate pad electrode. The channel region below the gate pad electrode is fixed to a source potential. Thus, a predetermined reverse breakdown voltage between a drain and a source is secured without forming a p+ type impurity region below the entire lower surface of the gate pad electrode. Furthermore, a protection diode is formed in a conductive layer disposed at the outer periphery of an operation region.

  • Patent number: 8343421
Abstract: According to the invention a method (and corresponding system) of enhancing application of high intensity acoustic waves is provided, wherein acoustic waves, e.g. ultrasound, and a gaseous medium, e.g. steam, coincide at a treatment zone. This is achieved by a combination of one or more high intensity acoustic generators and/or reflectors. In this way, enhanced efficiency in an area of the gaseous medium (or where the gaseous medium is to affect something) is obtained since a second generator or a reflector is located so that the acoustic waves directly influence the gaseous medium.

  • Patent number: 8344766
Abstract: A reset transistor is prevented from being deteriorated when power-down occurs during a programming operation or an erasing operation. It is made possible to protect the reset transistor as well as other transistors in a circuit to which a high voltage is applied when the power-down occurs during the erasing operation on an EEPROM, because the system is not reset all at once based only on a first reset signal POR of a power-on reset circuit, but is reset based on the first reset signal POR and a low voltage detection signal LD from a low voltage detection circuit so that the reset transistor is not turned on while the high voltage is applied to it.

  • Patent number: 8343035
Abstract: Dilators with a threaded distal portion and direct visualization capability may be used for penetrating and dilating stiff tissues and bones. The threaded portion of a dilator engages the tissue between the insertion site and the target site, and may be rotated for advancing through the target tissue in a more controlled fashion. The direct visualization capability may be used to visualize the ligament as the threaded distal portion passes through the ligamentum flavum. The devices and methods described may be used in procedures, for example, where ligaments surrounding the epidural space need to be dilated in order to deliver one or more surgical instruments into the epidural space.

  • Patent number: 8340442
Abstract: A high dynamic range (HDR) image can be lossy compressed by first mapping floating point image data values of the HDR image from a light linear space to a perceptually linear space using a first non-linear mapping function. A value in the light linear space is proportionate to the power of a light source, and a value in the perceptually linear space is proportionate to a visual perceived brightness. Floating point discrete cosine transform (DCT) frequency coefficients of the floating point image data values of the HDR image are determined. The floating point DCT frequency coefficients are quantized. The quantized floating point DCT frequency coefficients are compressed. The compression of the quantized floating point DCT frequency coefficients is lossless. The compressed quantized floating point DCT frequency coefficients are stored.

  • Patent number: 8341008
Abstract: Disclosed are a demand forecasting method, a demand forecasting program, and a demand forecasting system that can adequately forecast a demand for a commodity. A management computer calculates a trend function with respect to demand values. The management computer then calculates the ratio of the demand values to a trend curve, and calculates a logarithm of the ratio. Then, the management computer approximates the calculated natural logarithm curve with a periodic model, and converts the logarithmic scale of the acquired periodic model to a normal scale. Demand forecasting is performed using a demand forecasting model acquired by combining a periodic change model of the normal scale with a trend curve (trend function).

  • Patent number: 8336195
Abstract: The invention is directed to an unfailing pickup operation of an electronic component from a component storage portion at a seam of storage tapes connected even using a connection tape and prevention of reduction in a pickup rate of an electronic component. A CPU sends a feeding command to a component feeding unit to perform a component feeding operation or the like. Then, when the CPU judges that a connection tape reaches a pickup position, the CPU drives an X axis drive motor and a Y axis drive motor to move a board recognition camera to the pickup position of the feeding unit, the camera takes an image of a storage portion of a storage tape, and a recognition processing device performs recognition processing. A correction value based on a result of this recognition processing is stored in a RAM, and a suction nozzle is moved taking this correction value into account and lowers to pick up an electronic component.
