  • Patent number: 3986274
Abstract: A running textile web that has been subjected to soaking by a liquid such as a scouring solvent is carried between a suction box located adjacent one face of the web and a source of pressurized and relatively dry heated gas adjacent the other face thereof and opposite the suction box. The heated gas passes through the web and is drawn into the suction box, enhancing the amount of liquid removed at this stage and presenting the web into a drying stage with less entrained liquid than if the web were subject to the action of the suction box only. The amount of mechanical mist is kept to a minimum within a closed scouring range by means of a closed loop between the suction box and a return conduit provided with a trap containing a batt of metallic wool. The liquid discharge from nozzles employed to uncurl the edges of the web is directed against shields also containing a batt of metallic wool to reduce bouncing, noise and mist generation.

  • Patent number: 3967423
Abstract: A skylight system is provided for installation on a roof in such a manner to remain weather-tight over a wide range of temperatures. Transparent or translucent panels in aluminum frames are mounted to a steel roof of a building by suitable connectors. Upon a change in temperature, the aluminum frame will expand or contract at a rate different from that of the steel roof, causing relative displacement between the skylight and the roof. To allow for a weather-proof seal to be maintained between the skylight and the roof, a slip joint is provided by means of an aluminum flange fixed to the skylight frame and having an inwardly extending lip spaced above and parallel to the outer face of the skylight and a steel flashing having a U-shaped bend along its free edge slipped over the lip of the flange and at its opposite edge being attached to the roof.

  • Patent number: 3958883
Abstract: In a spectroscopic apparatus, a desolvated aerosol containing sample impurities to be analyzed is introduced into the center of a toroidal shaped plasma which is excited by an inductively coupled radio frequency power oscillator characterized by a single resonant circuit comprising an induction coil and its associated tuning capacitor, the plasma being produced by passing a gas stream along the axis of the induction coil. The single resonant circuit defined by the interconnection between the plate tank circuit and the grid tank circuit of the radio frequency power oscillator is such as to provide a common inductance for both circuits and to furnish power output and feedback for maintaining oscillation, whereby any detuning caused by introduction of the desolvated aerosol into the plasma does not affect the level of power transfer over a wide range.
