  • Patent number: 8307495
Abstract: The present invention is a door closer for controlling the rate a door is closed. The door closer includes a tubular cylinder closed at a first end. Slidably mounted within the tubular housing is a rod assembly that includes a piston at a first end. As the rod assembly is moved through the cylinder, air is drawn into and expelled from the cylinder. A hold open bracket is mounted on the rod assembly for locking the position of the rod assembly with respect to the cylinder. A pair of springs is mounted on the rod, one on each side of the hold open bracket, to maintain the hold open bracket in a neutral position in normal operation. A cover is slidably mounted over the second end of the cylinder to move the hold open bracket to a locked position.

  • Patent number: 8062410
Abstract: The present invention harvests and utilizes fluidized bed drying technology and waste heat streams augmented by other available heat sources to dry feedstock or fuel. This method is useful in many industries, including coal-fired power plants. Coal is dried using the present invention before it goes to coal pulverizers and on to the furnace/boiler arrangement to improve boiler efficiency and reduce emissions. This is all completed in a low-temperature, open-air system. Also included is an apparatus for segregating particulate by density and/or size including a fluidizing bed having a particulate receiving inlet for receiving particulate to be fluidized. This is useful for segregating contaminants like sulfur and mercury from the product stream.

  • Patent number: 7976606
Abstract: A filter assembly for removing unwanted contaminants and other impurities from a filtrant stream entering the intake region of an underlying device. The filter assembly comprises a filter media appropriate for segregating and separating the impurities and contaminants from the filtrant stream, and a surrounding collar for providing structural support to the filter media that simultaneously provides a self-adhesive material. Such collar is formed from a self-adhesive material, and a binding solution like printers ink, which interact in conjunction with the portion of such filter media not constituting the filtering region, so that the resulting support collar is integrally connected to the filter media, and is non-tacky on its top surface. At the same time, the adhesive retains its adhesive properties on the bottom surface of the collar.

  • Patent number: 7890477
Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatus store and play licensed digital content in a plurality of files on a computer-readable medium. In addition, a plurality of dummy files are also stored on the computer-readable medium. The file names for the licensed digital content files and the dummy files are generated in a manner such that the licensed digital content files cannot be distinguished from the dummy files. The file names may comprise randomly generated characters, or sequential file names where the sequential file names are randomly assigned to the digital content files and the dummy files.

  • Patent number: 7871112
Abstract: A reversible, double deadbolt latch bolt assembly for securing and locking a door is provided according to the invention. It comprises a lock body to which is slidably mounted a live bolt for movement between an extended position and a retracted position, the live bolt being operated by an actuator, such as a handle cam rotated by means of a door knob or lever-operated spindle. Also slidably mounted to the lock body are at least two cam-operated deadbolts on opposite sides of the live bolt for movement between a locked position and an unlocked position. These cams may optionally be linked to each other within the lock body, so that operation of one of the cams by, e.g., a key cylinder or thumb turn causes simultaneous operation of the other cam.

  • Patent number: 7865764
Abstract: In a system for monitoring remote computing stations, each remote station includes an array of detectors and a controller configured to receive the detector signals. The controller causes a condition information generator to generate condition records including multiple condition information entries, each entry corresponding to one of the detector outputs. A monitoring station is adapted to send cues to the remote stations, and each station responds to a cue by presenting its condition record as a web page for retrieval by the monitoring station. The monitoring station sends the cues to stations in a sequence controlled by a user of the monitoring station, or alternatively, in a rapid and repeated sequence according to a station selection program written in Java or another universal language. The program generates interlocked instruction sets designed to recognize, as an error, a failure to connect with a remote station.

  • Patent number: 7721468
Abstract: A tightening shoe is provided with a sole, an upper and crisscrossing laces. The lace ends project into the shoe structure where they are received by a tightening mechanism. The tightening mechanism includes a winding gear for winding the lace ends about its perimeter to withdraw the laces into the tightening mechanism's interior chamber. In addition, the tightening mechanism includes a drive gear which is rotated by a pre-wound tightening cable which is positioned immediately adjacent to the winding gear. Preferably, the winding gear and drive gear are positioned within the shoe's sole so as to rotate about a vertical axis relative to the shoe's structure.

  • Patent number: 7703815
Abstract: A quick cam latch mechanism having an operatively coupled bolt and cam assembly disposed in a latch housing. A handle is coupled to the cam assembly for moving the bolt between an extended or engaged position and a retracted or disengaged position. The cam assembly includes a primary cam operatively coupled to a secondary cam or linkage that is in turn operatively coupled to the bolt. Rotation of the primary cam translates into increased pivoting of the linkage and thereby increased retraction of the bolt. As a result, less rotation of primary cam is needed to retract the bolt. In an example embodiment of the invention, at least two linkages are utilized to quickly retract the bolt regardless of the direction of rotation of the handle.
