    Abstract: The subject invention is directed to methods, processes and decisions on test outcomes for testing for faulty, therefor dangerous, performance of zero speed indicators that are used to control the opening of barriers guarding moving machine components. The indicators may be tested by removing them from the components during operation without shutting down production or in certain situations the indicators may be tested during the run down phase of the components caused by machine stop initiations. The tests allow to anticipate and hence prevent hazardous opening of barriers due to a faulty zero speed indication. Additionally, the invention is directed to testing of the insertion of motion interference devices in conjunction with zero speed indicators, both of which must perform correctly in order to permit the unlocking and opening of the protective barrier. There are included various exemplary devices for effecting the testing function.

    Abstract: For use in a rotational casting machine used for coating a rotating body with elastomer, such as polyurethane, there is provided a nozzle used for dispensing the liquid polyurethane onto the rotating body to be coated. The outlet of the nozzle is a narrow, elongated slit or opening. However, the interior passageway of the nozzle continually changes shape from the inlet to the outlet thereof, in order to ensure a constant cross-sectional area of the interior passageway along the length thereof, and in order to arrive at the desired narrow, elongated outlet-opening, whereby laminar flow of the liquid polyurethane is achieved with the concomitant reduced dwell-time of the liquid polyurethane therein, in order to reduce build up and clogging of the nozzle.

    Abstract: A porous polishing pad for use chemical/mechanical planarization of semiconductor wafers is provided with a transparent section formed in a section of the porous polishing pad by direct injection of a polymeric material into a modified portion of the pad. The modified section may be either a low density area, or may be created by removing a complete vertical section of the pad. The injected polymer forms an integral window with the pad by flowing into the matrix of the pad at the pad/window interface. No additional reinforcement is required to hold the window in place; however, adhesive and/or another impervious layer may be attached behind the window for additional support. In an alternative embodiment, a separate and distinct window-plug is inserted into a cutout section of the pad, and bonded to the pad by one or more binding film layers on the back, non-working surface of the pad.

The porous pad contains nanometer-sized filler-particles that reinforce the structure, imparting an increased resistance to wear as compared to prior-art pads. Also disclosed is a method of making the polishing pad.

    Abstract: A device for redirecting alarm-messaging from an alarm control panel from its connection to the PSTN to a backup radio transceiver for transmission of the alarm signaling to a central alarm station via a radio network. The switch-over to the radio network occurs not only when the PSTN line is down, for whatever reason, but also occurs when the PSTN line is already occupied by an existing transmission by a premises' telephones, in order to allow the user to make a call over the PSTN during such an alarm condition. Moreover, if during the time the alarm control panel is transmitting its alarm messages over the PSTN, a premises' telephone goes off-hook, the device of the invention terminates the alarm panel's connection to the PSTN and automatically switches over the alarm panel to the radio backup system.
