Patent number: 4557812Abstract: An electrolyte containing 65 g/l zinc and 150 g/l Cu is purified in zinc, that is, the copper is removed, by causing the electrolyte to fluidize a bed 8 of 1/2 mm copper particles. The bed is fluidized by 25% to make it 42 cm deep. An anode 11 is disposed above the top of the bed. A cathode 9 is disposed part-way up the bed. Copper is electroplated onto the bed particles. Any zinc which may be electroplated onto the bed particles tends to redissolve with concomitant cementation, on the particles, of copper, which can be recovered. The electrolyte is thus eventually completely stripped of copper and can be used for zinc electrowinning.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1984Date of Patent: December 10, 1985Assignee: National Research Development CorporationInventors: Francis Goodridge, Raymond E. Patent number: 4554945Abstract: The fuel injection apparatus includes fuel a fuel metering chamber, an air supply chamber and a further chamber formed in a rigid body. A metering member is slidable within the fuel and gas chambers and passes through the further chamber. The amount of fuel fed to the metering chamber via valve means is controlled by the position of the metering member. An increase in pressure in the air supply chamber opens a valved passage in the metering member and the air expels the fuel from the metering chamber via check valve means. The further chamber collects any leakage of air or fuel past bearing means that receives the metering member.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1983Date of Patent: November 26, 1985Assignee: Orbital Engine Company Proprietary LimitedInventor: Michael L. Patent number: 4553326Abstract: A chain saw safety braking assembly includes a sensing arm pivotally mounted to the housing and having a protrusion. A portion of the sensing arm is located in front of the gripping handle and is arranged to move from a first position to a second position in response to being struck by an appendage of the operator. A flexible brake band is disposed around the peripheral surface of a brake drum, and includes a first end anchored to the housing and a second end coupled to the sensing arm protrusion, such that when the sensing arm moves from the first position to the second position the flexible brake band is moved from a position free of the brake drum to a frictional braking relationship with the brake drum. A latch is rotatably mounted to the housing and is adapted to releasably engage the protrusion on the sensing arm. A spring anchored to the housing cooperates with the latch such that the latch yieldably holds the sensing arm in either the first or the second position.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 1984Date of Patent: November 19, 1985Assignee: McCulloch CorporationInventor: James F.
