  • Patent number: 7553275
Abstract: A medical device includes an articulating shaft with a pair of slat assemblies. By moving an articulator, the slat assemblies are configured to concurrently push while the other pulls in order to bend the articulating shaft. The articulating shaft includes a series of alternating pins and pivot members. Each pin defines an aperture that collectively forms a passageway for receiving an actuator or a tube. The pair of slat assemblies extend generally parallel to each other on opposite sides of the pins. A method for articulating a shaft of a medical device is also provided.

  • Patent number: 7551795
Abstract: An image processing method and system removes quantization artifacts in digital video/images. The local neighborhood of the current pixel is segmented based on a pre-defined quantization level to generate a segment containing the current pixel. Then, the luminance values of the pixels within the segment are low-pass filtered. Several sub-gains are computed based on measurements of the segment, and the sub-gains are multiplied together and filtered to obtain a final gain value. The final gain value is used to linearly interpolate between the original luminance value and the filtered luminance value of the pixel to obtain an output luminance value.

  • Patent number: 7549270
Abstract: A package for an elongate surgical device, such as a catheter, includes an elongate tube formed into a coil configuration with a first coil portion disposed adjacent to a second coil portion. A thermal weld bonds the coil portions in a fixed relationship and with a strength sufficient to prevent peeling the first coil portion from the second coil portion. The surgical device can then be loaded into the tube, pouched and sterilized for ultimate distribution. In an associated method, the tube is coiled on a turntable and moved relative to heating stations where the thermal bonds can be formed.

  • Patent number: 7548619
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide for the copy protection of distributed material after conditional access is applied, regardless of where the material is distributed. The solutions described provide the advantage of being sufficiently simple in implementation to qualify as “curb high” solutions. “Curb high” solutions provide a range of security from minimal security to a high level of security while requiring relatively fewer system resources to implement than prior approaches.

  • Patent number: 7544390
Abstract: A surface is masked or stenciled off in a specific pattern or design and treated with a liquid or vapor chemical composition. The resulting pattern or design on the surface is substantially invisible in the absence of condensation. As the surface is subject to a temperature change, for example, moved from a cooler ambient to a warmer ambient, the specific pattern or design becomes visible as a result of selective condensation.

  • Patent number: 7542095
Abstract: A motion decision value provides a dependable estimate whether motion occurs in a given region of a video image in an interlaced video sequence. The motion detection is particularly applicable in the conversion from interlaced video to progressive video. An input first is fed to an absolute value former which computes a frame difference signal from a difference between the first field and the second field in one frame. A point-wise motion detection signal is computed based on the frame difference signal and noise in the video sequence, wherein the point-wise motion detection signal is noise-adaptive. The point-wise motion detection signal is then followed by a region-wise motion detection that combines the point-wise motion detection signal with an adjacent point-wise motion detection signal delayed by one field.

  • Patent number: 7535517
Abstract: A method of reducing noise in a sequence of digital video frames is performed by motion estimation between a current noisy frame and a previous noise-reduced frame, to generate motion vectors indicating relative motion between the pixels in the current noisy frame and the corresponding pixels in the previous noise-reduced frame; and removing noise from the current noisy frame by computing the weighted average of pixels in the current noise frame and the corresponding pixels in the previous noise-reduced frame based on the motion vectors, to generate a noise-reduced output frame.

  • Patent number: 7522220
Abstract: A noise reduction system that not only preserves details in images but also provides essentially clean, smooth, and natural looking homogeneous regions in images. The noise reduction system utilizes a dual-channel adaptive noise reduction technique. The input signal is first split into two channels (i.e., a low-pass channel and a high-pass channel), by a channel splitting filter. Then the two channel signals are processed separately. The low-pass channel signal is processed using an adaptive directional filter based on the estimation of the local 2D and 1D statistics and the detection of the local image structure direction. The high-pass channel signal is processed by a non-linear filtering method based on the estimation of the local statistics and the noise level of the high-pass channel signal, which is derived from the noise level of the original input signal. The processed signals from the two channels are summed together to get the final output.

  • Patent number: 7516766
Abstract: Disclosed is an intra-wheel rear suspension system moveably supporting a rotating wheel relative to a frame via a concentric hub structure, the system exhibiting minimal side play or torsional play due to its unique bearing structure. The system includes an inner carrier assembly having an inner slide block with front curved bearing surface and a rear curved bearing surface. A non-rotating axle extends to either side of the inner slide block and is secured to the frame. An outer track frame that is adapted for rotatably supporting the wheel via any suitable concentric hub structure, has a curved aperture with front and rear curved bearing surfaces that engage the front and rear curved bearing surfaces of the inner slide block. The outer track frame moves arcuately up and down relative to the inner slide block in response to a shock absorbing displacement.

  • Patent number: 7514643
Abstract: A lighted pushbutton switch assembly has a printed circuit board in the bottom of a housing, with an LED mounted on the board. A switch operating plunger at the top rotates a ratchet and electrical contact member whenever the plunger is depressed. The contact member engages conductive paths on the top of the PC board and moves from path to path as it is rotated to change the state of the switch. A transparent light pipe over the LED transmits light through the plunger. The light pipe fits through the ratchet and is rotated by the ratchet to rotate the electrical contact member.
