  • Patent number: 8156368
Abstract: Rebuilding lost data in a distributed redundancy data storage system including multiple nodes, is provided. User data is stored as a collection of stripes, each stripe comprising a collection of data strips and associated parity strips, the stripes distributed across multiple corresponding data owner nodes and multiple corresponding parity owner nodes. A data owner node maintains the associated data strip holding a first copy of data, and a parity owner node maintains a parity strip holding a parity for the collection of data strips. Upon detecting a failure condition, the owner node initiates a rebuilding protocol for recovery of lost data and/or parity it owns. The protocol includes reconstruction of lost data or parity by a computation involving data and/or parity from a recovery strip set in a stripe, wherein a recovery strip set contains at least one surviving data or parity strip. The recovery strip set for a lost data strip contains at least one surviving parity strip.

  • Patent number: 8140491
Abstract: One embodiment retrieves a first portion of a plurality of stored objects from at least one storage device. The embodiment further performs a base type deduplication estimation process on the first portion of stored objects. The embodiment still further categorizes the first portion of the plurality of stored objects into deduplication sets based on a deduplication relationship of each object of the plurality of stored objects with each of the estimated first plurality of deduplication chunk portions. The embodiment further combines deduplication sets into broad classes based on deduplication characteristics of the objects in the deduplication sets. The embodiment still further classifies a second portion of the plurality of stored objects into broad classes using classifiers. The embodiment further selects an appropriate deduplication approach for each categorized class.

  • Patent number: 8135400
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and a system for device discovery in wireless communication. One implementation involves scanning one or more wireless channels to discover a partner wireless station for a new transmission, by detecting peak energy and beacons on each scanned channel. If a beacon is not detected, then selecting the clearest channel among the scanned channels, and transmitting beacons on the clearest channel. Upon detecting a beacon from a partner station, establishing association with the partner station and selecting a wireless data channel for communication with the partner station. Another implementation involves discovering a partner wireless station to establish a data channel for communication with a discovering station that is associated with a coordinator station, and transmitting a bandwidth reservation request to the coordinator to reserve channel time for control message exchange between the discovering station and the partner station.

  • Patent number: 8123513
Abstract: These inventions provide a method and an apparatus for rolling food dough without causing slipping between the food dough and rolling rollers and without causing twisted shrinkages in the food dough, and disk-shaped food dough manufactured by the method. Further, these inventions relate to the disk-shaped food dough manufactured by the method and the apparatus. The apparatus used for the method is comprised of a cradle that can relatively ascend away from and descend toward a table, and conical-shaped rolling rollers rotatably disposed at the cradle, which rollers can swivel. When the food dough is rolled by means of the rolling rollers by pressing the food dough, the rolling rollers rotate so that the speed of the rotation is higher than that when they are passively rotated by the swiveling motion. The relative speed of the descent of the rolling rollers toward the food dough is controlled so that the speed gradually decreases from the initial speed.
