    Abstract: This disclosure pertains to quick insertion type lamp sockets. The sockets are for supporting light bulbs having a circular base with retention pins radially projecting from either side of the circular base. One type of bulb which the present socket can receive and support has diametrically opposed and axially aligned pins radially projecting on its circular base. A second type of bulb which the present socket can receive and support has diametrically opposed and axially offset pins on its circular base. The base of the subject socket has opening means located and configured so as to positively engage and axially restrain both pins of either the first or second bulb type.

    Abstract: An impact absorbing bumper mounting unit for automotive vehicles includes inner and outer nested members of C-shaped configuration. The outer member has a composite shape with one corrugated end portion fixed to a bumper assembly and its other C-shaped section portion adapted for attachment to the vehicle frame. The inner member has a uniform C-shaped section with its one end fixed to the bumper assembly and its other free end spaced from the frame attached end of the outer member. The composite outer member provides an impact absorbing corrugated portion and a C-sectioned guide portion which cooperates with the inner member for controlled coaxial collapse of each mounting unit during a low speed impact obviating damage by the bumper assembly to the body work.

    Abstract: A counterbalance pinion gear arrangement for a vehicle window regulator employing a guide track and flexible rack rotary-to-linear motion converter. The pinion gear is meshed with the rack and includes a spiral spring operative upon translation of the rack to rotate the pinion. The spiral spring stores energy when the window is lowered such that the spring assists in raising the window. The pinion may be used interchangeable on either side of a vehicle by providing a mirror image spring capturing cleat formed on the radial interior of the pinion rim releasably retaining a hooked end of the spiral spring. The pinion gear teeth have a blank portion to prevent inadvertent disassembly of the regulator prior to its mounting in a vehicle.

    Abstract: A liquid fuel collecting and damming assembly located in a vehicle fuel tank to aid the intake of fuel to the engine by elevating the level of fuel about the fuel inlet particularly when the liquid level in the tank is relatively low. The assembly provides an open-ended cylindrical wall which is supported on the fuel tank bottom so that the inlet to the fuel line extends through the resultant open top so as to extend downward toward the bottom. A fuel return conduit extends through the collector assembly's wall and has an outlet end portion spaced vertically upward from the inlet portion so that fuel is discharged therethrough into the collector assembly and enters at an elevated level. The fuel supply in the collector assembly remains at the elevated level with respect to fuel in the tank at a low level condition due to the raised outlet portion of the return conduit.

The tailgate has a horizontally disposed channel in its inner panel located in opposed relation with the front wall channel. The channels and wheel housing surfaces are sized to receive a standard rectangular building panel positioned with its forward edge in the front wall channel supported on the wheel housing surfaces in a horizontal plane. The panel's length results in its rearward edge being received and held in the tailgate channel upon the tailgate being pivoted to its upright closed position.

    Abstract: A system for use in shutting down a motor vehicle engine upon elapse of selected sensed input conditions, comprises an electronic digital counter which begins counting in response to the occurrence of any of the selected input conditions. Logic gates and warning devices are also associated with the counter circuit. When a predetermined count is reached, it is considered indicative of excessive idle, and consequently the ignition circuit is automatically interrupted to thereby shut down the engine and conserve fuel. Prior to the actual engine shutdown the warning devices may give a pre-warning of impending shutdown.

    Abstract: A protective flexible trim molding strip for attachment to an automotive body fascia panel. A plurality of metal gromments, each in the form of an eyelet tubular sleeve, having their outer circular head flanges cemented in a recess on the back of the molding strip. A retaining metal disc is received on each sleeve free end by means of a centrally located hole of a predetermined diameter for close contact with the sleeve outer diameter. The sleeve free end is compressed by a suitable tool applying a transverse pinching force. This force laterally expands the sleeve providing a bulbous portion capturing the disc to retain the plastic strip on body panels of varying thickness while obviating dimpling of the strip.

    Abstract: An improved extruded resilient flush-look window molding adapted for pre-attachment to a glass plate for concealing the gap between a body panel window opening and the edge of the glass plate. The molding has a stem portion with first and second self-biased retaining legs on one side thereof, adapted to engage the glass edge and a diverging third leg extending from the stem portion opposite side supporting an integral arcuate sectioned trim strip in cantilever fashion on the diverging leg upper end. The trim strip projects inwardly to overlie the gap and the molding stem portion. The divergent leg is self-biased for cammed inward flexing during insertion of the glass plate. Thus, the trim strip self-adjusts inwardly so as to maintain its engagement with the plate outer surface while accommodating production tolerance gaps.

    Abstract: A lamp failure indicating circuit particularly useful for automotive vehicle application such as detecting failure of headlamps, stop lamps and/or turn signal lamps. The disclosed circuit embodiments monitor branch circuits each containing a lamp load and comprising an associated transformer. Each transformer comprises two coils disposed on a ferromagnetic torroidal core. One coil of each transformer is connected in the branch circuit of the associated lamp load, the coil and lamp load being in series, and being associated with a means which forms therewith a complete circuit path which is independent of the power supply which energizes the lamp load. The other coils of the transformers are connected in a circuit to which a test signal is applied with the result of the test indicating whether any of the lamps are failed.
