  • Patent number: 8349216
Abstract: Nonconjugated conductive polymers have a ratio of double bonds to total bonds of less than ½ are used to produce compositions with unexpected non-linear optical characteristics in this invention. Large third order optical effects including quadratic electro-optic effect and two-photon absorption have been measured in nonconjugated conductive polymers after doping the polymers. Among the nonconjugated polymers are styrene-butadiene-rubber copolymer (SBR), poly(?-pinene), poly(ethylene-pyrrolediyl) derivative, polynorbornene, cis-1,4 polyisoprene and trans-1,4 polyisoprene. The enhancement of the non-linear optical effect is due to the special charge-transfer complex structure and formation of nano-optical domains. Among the doping materials are electron acceptors such as iodine and antimony pentachloride.

  • Patent number: 8335471
Abstract: Systems and methods for channel pairing a transmitter and a receiver are provided. In this regard, a representative method, among others, includes selecting a channel in a radio frequency (RF) band; transmitting a carrier and alert tone on the selected channel in the RF band; responsive to detecting the transmitted carrier and alert tone, demodulating the carrier and alert tone on the selected channel in the RF band and producing the demodulated alert tone; and responsive to detecting the produced alert tone, using the selected channel to establish a wireless link between the transmitter and receiver.

  • Patent number: 8286278
Abstract: Methods are disclosed for making a base of a spa apparatus to resemble artificial rocks and wood. In one embodiment, the method is comprised of the following steps: making a mold in which its inner surface has the shape and surface texture of a rock or wood; placing a first structure on the inner surface of the mold, the first structure being operative to prevent warping of the base; spraying polymer on the mold; allowing the polymer to harden; and removing the hardened polymer from the mold, the hardened polymer having substantially the shape and surface texture of rock or wood.

  • Patent number: 8270921
Abstract: Systems and methods for tuning an antenna for a frequency modulation (FM) transceiver are provided. A representative system includes: a network of electrical adjustable passive components that receives and sends radio frequency (RF) signals to a receiver circuitry via the network of electrical adjustable passive components. The receiver circuitry determines the received signal strength indication (RSSI) of the RF signal. The system further includes a transmitter circuitry that transmits RF signals via the network of electrical adjustable passive components, and a peak detector circuitry that receives and determines a voltage output of the RF signals from the variable capacitors. An auto-tune circuitry receives the RSSI and output value from the receiver circuitry and the peak detector circuitry, respectively.

  • Patent number: 8185083
Abstract: GPS navigation devices or GPS receivers can consume less power by using a temperature recorder circuit and/or a power manager in maintaining the accuracies of the GPS receiver time and reference frequency to improve battery life. A representative receiver includes a time reference device and the temperature recorder circuit that operate while the receiver hibernates. The time reference device generates clock signals and the temperature recorder circuit receives and operates using the clock signals from the time reference device. The temperature recorder senses the temperature of the time reference device. The temperature recorder circuit is designed to send a wake-up signal to at least one electrical component of the receiver to wake up the electrical component of the receiver. The electrical component of the receiver includes at least one of the following: a GPS signal processing system and a frequency reference device.

  • Patent number: 8144810
Abstract: An interface between an RF processing section and a baseband processing section supports general purpose message transmission as well as satellite positioning system signal sample transmission between the RF processing section and the baseband processing section. The interface includes a bi-directional message serial interface and a data serial interface. The complexity of the data serial interface may be minimized by using a single data bit signal line in the data serial interface.

  • Patent number: 8104114
Abstract: Embodiments of a disposable liner that is disposed in a cavity of a basin are disclosed. In one embodiment, a disposable liner that is disposed in a cavity of a basin includes sidewalls that are designed to adapt to the contours of the cavity of the basin and a bottom wall that is attached to the sidewalls and includes a drainage hole that is aligned with the drainage hole of the basin. The disposable liner further includes a cover that seals the drainage holes, preventing water from draining out of the disposable liner through the drainage hole. The cover includes an elongated tab that extends to a top edge of at least one of the side walls. The elongated tab is designed to facilitate peeling the cover off the disposable liner.

  • Patent number: 8099185
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a system and device for making garment. One embodiment, for example, includes a system that comprises a processing device and a sewing module that sews garment material to facilitate making the garment. The system further comprises memory that includes a thread count manager having instructions stored in the memory. The instructions are executed by the processing device and include logic configured to instruct the sewing module to sew the garment material based on counting threads of the garment material rather than using the geometric shape of pieces of garment material.
