Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for displaying moving items in a user interface and, in particular, to such a method for use within a device for use with a wireless communications network. The invention provides a method and apparatus for displaying a moving object in which the object is part of a user interface defined by a mark-up language and in which the movement of the object is defined by an arbitrary profile.

Abstract: An apparatus comprising: a display for presenting information to a user; a housing connected to the display for supporting the display; and a keyboard assembly deployable through a sliding connection to the housing, the keyboard assembly deployable in multiple directions, the information presented to the user through the display is oriented based on deployment of the keyboard assembly, direction of deployment of the keyboard assembly, and input from an application resident on the device. The application prescribes the orientation of the information presented on the display to the user in relation to the direction of keyboard assembly deployment.

Abstract: A method and system that provides for efficient re-synchronization of a PPP link on a Um interface is provided. When the PPP link is connected, if an indication that the communications of the mobile station is associated with a new network server is detected, only the Um interface will undergo PPP configuration renegotiation. The method and system does not require the examination of all data packets for determining whether PPP configuration renegotiation is required.

Abstract: A mobile device has a housing having first and second display areas. A mic-array is integrated into the housing and has microphones operable to sense sound signals at multiple locations on the housing from a sound pen when handwriting an alphanumeric symbol on a surface separate from and in proximity to the housing. A handwriting-to-text converter is operable to graphically represent, for display on the first display area, simulated handwritten traces of the alphanumeric symbol and to convert the alphanumeric symbol into a computer-readable interchange code, representative of the alphanumeric symbol, for display in the second display area.

Abstract: Methods and systems for conducting financial transactions in a mobile environment utilizing a mobile device such as a mobile telephone or wireless connected personal digital assistant (PDA) that communicates with a mobile financial transaction system (MFTS) that stores user and transaction information. The MFTS receives information on behalf of a mobile device user corresponding to bills to pay or other payments to make. The MFTS also receives information corresponding to payment sources available for use in making payments. Selected payments information and payment source information are communicated to the mobile user via a wireless network and displayed for user selection. The user selects a payment to make and a payment source. A mobile payment instruction is generated and communicated to the MFTS. The MFTS instructs a payment instruction recipient to make a payment to an identified payee. Real-time updated account and payment balances are provided to the user's mobile device.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are presented for the presentation and activation of contextual actions for interpreted content. In one aspect, keywords are recognized from an existing webpage, re-processed into a second webpage, and presented via a browser. The indicators are selectable and may invoke functionality resident on the wireless device within one or more native applications.

The point-of-sale payment system includes a mobile wireless communications instrument having at least one data processor. A dynamic variable is updated by parsing an instruction written in the data language containing the dynamic variable, creating the dynamic variable in memory, assigning a value for the dynamic variable, and updating the dynamic variable value without parsing the instruction written in the data language containing the dynamic variable. The dynamic variable may also be updated by creating an object associated with the dynamic value, wherein the object determines the value of the dynamic variable. Further, an observing a function value may be associated with the dynamic variable and then a notification is given to the object when the function value has changed.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for monitoring usage patterns of a wireless device may include a usage monitoring and reporting module operable to monitor and log usage on a wireless device based on a received usage configuration. Further, based on the usage configuration, the wireless device may forward the log to another device operable to analyze the log and generate a usage pattern report viewable by an authorized user.

Abstract: Techniques to manage the display of information for multiple voice and/or data calls in wireless devices. The techniques can manage a summary of all calls that are in progress and detailed information for individual calls. In one method, summary information is initially provided (e.g., to a display) for the multiple calls. The summary information may include, for example, the type and status of each call. An indication is then received to view detailed information for a selected call. In response, the detailed information for the selected call is provided. The detailed information for the selected call may include, for example, the caller name, call number, call duration, and so on. The detailed information for a data call may indicate various attributes for the data call (e.g., data rate, connection status, activity, service type, billing information, and so on).

Abstract: The present invention provides systems, devices and methods for controlling a desired output of an output device. These systems, devices and methods include connecting an electrical resistance element having a selected one of a plurality of resistance values with an electrical circuit portion having a plurality of electrical components, determining an electrical characteristic associated with the connected electrical circuit portion and the variable resistance element, and generating a control signal based on the electrical characteristic to control the desired output of the output device.
