  • Patent number: 4143928
Abstract: A programming device for maintaining a cyclic program and associated records for such program in the production cycle of animals. In particular, the device relates to a carousel type record programmer for keeping records and maintaining set programs for use in swine production. The records for each animal are maintained on a card or cards filed in a fixed radially extending slot in a carousel housing, and the program is carried on a ring which rotates relative to the card file slots and which ring is advanced one day at a time so that each day a program space aligns with a particular card file slot. Any program item to be performed for the animals or subjects whose cards are located in the aligning slot will be carried out. That is, the animals whose cards align with the program will be subjected to the treatment, or other operation that is required.

  • Patent number: 4143718
Abstract: The present invention relates to a support for an earth working tool such as a chisel plow, and more particularly to a spring loaded support which permits pivoting of the earth working tool against a resilient bias force for prevention of overstress, and which includes a mounting member that distributes the stresses on the earth working tool shank itself across a substantial length of the shank to reduce stress concentration areas and lower the maximum stresses by providing a spring backing member along the shank which carries the mounting pivot tube and also carries one end of the spring assembly.

  • Patent number: 4141493
Abstract: Containers and an apparatus for sensing containers such as beverage cans, which cans include means for identifying the beverage cans on which a return payment is to be made. The containers on which a deposit is made will be identified in a particular way to indicate that upon return a return payment is to be made. The present device provides an automatic, individual container sensing unit used as shown in combination with a crushing device for sensing whether the can is proper for repayment, and crushing the container subsequent to proper identification.

  • Patent number: 4139321
Abstract: A heat or cold storage system utilizing a plurality of channels dug directly into the earth and filled with rocks which are used to absorb heat or cold for storage, a part of such storage being the rocks themselves and a (usually much larger) part being the adjacent earth. Conduit connections are provided for carrying heat or cold to the rocks.

  • Patent number: 4127942
Abstract: An apparatus and method for reconditioning cylinder heads and more particularly for permitting proper, quick, and easy alignment of the cylinder head relative to a machine for drilling and reaming valve guides for reconditioning the valve guides in the head. The method pertains particularly to orienting properly the axes of the valve guides to be reconditioned when the valve guides are canted at a compound angle with respect to the plane surface of the head, which is used for mounting the head onto a cylinder block.

  • Patent number: 4121771
Abstract: A drip irrigation emitter or device comprising a flow restrictor helical thread on the outside of a main body, and a cap member that fits over the thread. Water is supplied to the interior of the main body and must flow through a narrow, annular passageway formed by the cap before the water flows through provided restrictor orifices, so no large particles are carried into the orifices or the helical thread to minimize plugging. The water discharges adjacent to the water tube or hose to minimize root intrusion into the irrigation device, and baffles also are provided to minimize root intrusion. The cap can be loosened or removed to flush the thread if foreign material enters the thread.

  • Patent number: 4121852
Abstract: A moldboard plow that is made in two sections which are hinged together about a horizontal pivot axis, so that the rear section of the plow can pivot about this horizontal axis relative to the front section to permit the plow to follow ground contours. Such hinged plows are useful where the present day large plow assemblies are utilized. The hinge assembly also includes structure for reducing the overall width of the plow for road transport. The present hinged plow is supported at four support points controlled by hydraulic cylinders connected and controlled to insure that when the plow is lowered into the ground the shares will enter the ground at a favorable angle for penetration.
