  • Patent number: 6836374
Abstract: A lens is provided that having optical parameters that may be adjusted in-situ, and is particularly useful as an IOL for use in cataract patients that require an adjustment in the optical power of the lens post-implantation. In one embodiment, the lens body carries an array of interior fluid-filled cells in which fluid is controllably moved upon application of energy from an external source to move a fluid media into or out of the cells to thereby alter the lens surface shape.

  • Patent number: 6773670
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for removing gas from a blood handling system. A filter apparatus for monitoring and removing gas is provided comprising of a gas removal/blood filter, a sensor to sense the presence of gas, and a valve operably coupled to the sensor to evacuate gas from the apparatus when the sensor detects an accumulation of gas. When used with a previously known blood handling system, the present filter apparatus facilitates priming and the addition of additional blood handling elements during operation of the blood handling system.

  • Patent number: 6755856
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for stenting are provided comprising a stent attached to a porous biocompatible material that is permeable to endothelial cell ingrowth, but impermeable to release of emboli of predetermined size. Preferred stent designs are provided, as well as preferred manufacturing techniques. Apparatus and methods are also provided for use at a vessel branching. Moreover, embodiments of the present invention may comprise a coating configured for localized delivery of therapeutic agents. Embodiments of the present invention are expected to provide enhanced embolic protection, improved force distribution, and improved recrossability, while reducing a risk of restenosis and thrombus formation.

  • Patent number: 6740331
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for delivering drugs or gene therapy within a patient's vessel. In a preferred embodiment, the apparatus comprises a material eluting a bioactive substance held in place within the patient's vessel by an anchor. The anchor and eluting material are sized and/or collapsible from a delivery configuration, in which the anchor and material may be delivered into the patient's vasculature within a delivery sheath, to a deployed configuration, wherein the anchor engages an interior wall of the patient's vessel. The eluting material may elute recombinant genes, drugs, or any other bioactive substance.
