  • Patent number: 8234998
Abstract: The present invention comprises an automated apparatus capable of spray depositing polyelectrolytes via the LbL mechanism with minimal or no human interaction. In certain embodiments, the apparatus sprays atomized polyelectrolytes onto a vertically oriented substrate. To counteract the effects of irregular spray patterns, the substrate is preferably slowly rotated about a central axis. In certain embodiments, the apparatus also includes a forced pathway for the droplets, such as a pathway created by using a vacuum. In this way, a thicker or three-dimensional substrate can be coated. In certain embodiments, the apparatus is designed so as to be scalable. Thus, through the use of multiple instantiations of the apparatus, a large or irregularly shaped substrate can be coated. Rolls of textile can therefore be coated using the apparatus. Additionally, the present invention includes a method to uniformly coat a substrate, such as a hydrophobic textile material, using aqueous solutions of polyelectrolytes.

  • Patent number: 8234844
Abstract: A packaging assembly in which discrete cushioning or blocking and bracing members are strategically positioned so as to provide improved protection of an article such as during shipment and storage. The assembly includes a substrate and a predetermined 2- or 3-dimensional pattern of cushioning members such as inflated (e.g., gas-filled) bags selectively and optionally independently affixed to the substrate. The pattern of cushioning members is predetermined in the x, y and z directions such that, when the substrate is positioned about the article, e.g., by folding the substrate, point contact between the cushioning members and the article is created. A method of fabricating a shock protective assembly for packaging an article is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8221522
Abstract: The present invention describes a system and method for accurately measuring the pressure within a filter housing. A pressure sensor and a communications device are coupled so as to be able to measure and transmit the pressure within the filter housing while in use. This system can comprise a single component, integrating both the communication device and the pressure sensor. Alternatively, the system can comprise separate sensor and transmitter components, in communication with one another. In yet another embodiment, a storage element can be added to the system, thereby allowing the device to store a set of pressure values. The use of this device is beneficial to many applications. For example, the ability to read pressure values in situ allows integrity tests to be performed without additional equipment. In addition, integrity testing for individual filters within multi-filter configurations is possible.

  • Patent number: 8208430
Abstract: The current invention defines a device and a method of logically inserting the device between two other network devices, for example, in a 3GPP Radio Access Network. The device transparently monitors and interacts with one or more control protocol layers in the two neighboring devices. The invention defines methods by which the intercepting node selectively passes through or proxies (selectively modifying portions of the protocols content) in such as way that the neighbor nodes are un-aware of the intercepting device. The proxy operation implies that the intercepting node is capable of terminating some protocol elements, injecting some protocol elements, or modifying protocol elements before forwarding them in such a way that the operation is transparent to neighboring nodes.

  • Patent number: 8181665
Abstract: A flushing unit for flushing vapor compressions systems with a flushing agent. The flushing unit includes a pressure relief member to ensure that the reservoir containing the flushing agent is not over-pressurized. In certain embodiments, the flushing unit is adapted to be in communication with a driving fluid or propellant, such as an inert gas or a flushing gas, and with a source of a flushing agent, such as a reservoir. The flushing unit includes a valve that, when opened, causes the driving fluid to flow into the reservoir containing the flushing agent and displace the flushing agent from the reservoir, causing it to ultimately flow into the system being flushed such as via a suitable hand-held injector. In the event the pressure in the reservoir exceeds a predetermined level, a pressure relief valve in the flushing unit is automatically actuated, thereby relieving pressure in the otherwise closed system.
