  • Patent number: 6797320
Abstract: An apparatus and method for applying a thermoplastic powder to threads located in a bore of an internally threaded fastener having a powder supply conduit in communication with a powder source and a powder application conduit defining a first passageway having a powder discharge port and a second passageway having a powder inlet port located adjacent the discharge port which is in communication with a powder collection system. The powder application conduit is movable for insertion into and through the bore of the fastener and into engagement with the powder supply conduit. The engagement forms a nozzle which directs powder through the powder discharge port onto the threads of the fastener and retrieves excess powder through the powder inlet port for conveyance to the powder collection system.

  • Patent number: 6793823
Abstract: In a wastewater treatment process involving activated sludge, the invention provides a method for improving suspended solids removal without the need for chemical coagulants. Improved solids removal is obtained through the reintroduction of return activated sludge as a natural flocculent prior to tertiary filtration. In some applications algal solids can be pre-filtered from equalization or detention ponds and lagoons by return activated sludge addition followed by mixing and high solids filtration. The inventions result in improved solids removal and longer run times for the treatment processes with reduced need for chemical coagulants.

  • Patent number: 6783671
Abstract: An enhanced activated sludge wastewater treatment method increases volumetric pollutant loading, hydraulic loading capacity and nutrient removal efficiency at a conventional activated sludge wastewater treatment plant. The method describes the control of return activated sludge rates, and the operation of partitioned aeration and reaeration zones according to measured properties of the mixed liquor to achieve the claimed benefits. Operating an existing treatment plant according to the enhanced treatment method provides a more consistent treatment process that is resistant to shock loading and increases plant capacity without the need for costly construction and operation of additional reactors and clarifiers.

  • Patent number: 6759086
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an improved method and apparatus for the application of powdered resins to threaded fasteners. In accordance with the present invention, the powdered resin handling system used to apply, collect, recycle and make-up the resin is generally enclosed; that is, with the exception of the application of the resin to the fasteners, the resin is generally maintained within conduit, housings or hoppers that are not open to the surroundings. This tends to minimize discharge of resin into the areas surrounding the fastener processing equipment and also isolates the resin from external environmental conditions that tend to degrade the resin over time. In addition, the present invention introduces fresh, new or make-up resin in a manner that assures intimate and thorough intermixing of the new and recycled resin while minimizing the cost and complexity of the equipment employed for that purpose.

  • Patent number: 6708643
Abstract: A portable barricade for use in separating aircraft and ground vehicles comprises a sign panel hanging from a horizontally extending frame member, the frame member and sign panel being supported by first and second pairs of expandable legs. The first and second pairs of legs are supported by two cross braces, the first having a tubular configuration and the second having a planar configuration. The barricade is positioned having its tubular cross brace adjacent the aircraft traffic and the planar cross brace adjacent the ground vehicle traffic. Air flow or exhaust generated by aircraft exert a greater force on the planar cross brace than on the tubular cross brace, tending to maintain the barricade with its legs in an expanded, operational position.

  • Patent number: 6634372
Abstract: In an apparatus containing rotating filter media that removes solids from a fluid stream, the invention provides devices and methods for improved cleaning of the filter media. Solids trapped on the filter media are removed by the application of a pressurized fluid spray system. The spray system has nozzles distributed across a spray arm. The nozzles create a generally elliptical spray fan pattern in contact with the filter media. The nozzles are spaced and angularly oriented on the spray arm so that adjacent spray fan contact areas overlap. This distribution and orientation equalizes the distribution of the washing flow and hydraulic energy over the filter area, thereby maintaining the filter material in a more uniformly clean and effective filtering condition.
