Abstract: Certain examples relate to lighting system covers that include AR-coated textured glass, and/or methods of making the same. In certain examples, at least one light source is provided proximate to a cover comprising a glass substrate. The glass substrate includes an anti-reflective (AR) coating on the surface that is closer to the at least one light source, and the glass substrate is textured (e.g., such that it is substantially prismatic in texture) on the surface opposite the AR-coated surface. The surface of the glass substrate on which the AR coating is formed may be a flat, irregular, or textured matte. An optional AR coating also may be formed on the textured surface of the glass substrate.

Abstract: Pictorial characters are used to replace one or more words or even one or more full sentences of a message for communication to one or more people. In the context of an electronic communication device, a person (“sending party”) can use pictorial characters to “encode” words or sentences of a message to be sent to another person (“receiving party”). The receiving party, upon receiving the message, decodes the coded message and, if appropriate or desired, replies to the message. The communication devices used by the sending and receiving parties can be provided with various pictorial character-related features. For example, the communication devices may be provided with processing circuitry that conditions the use of a particular pictorial character for sending messages upon prior entry of a valid authorization (unlocking) code for that character.
Abstract: The present invention relates to newly identified microorganisms capable of direct production of L-ascorbic acid (hereinafter also referred to as Vitamin C). The invention also relates to polynucleotide sequences comprising genes that encode proteins which are involved in the synthesis of Vitamin C. The invention also features polynucleotides comprising the full length polynucleotide sequences of the novel genes and fragments thereof, the novel polypeptides encoded by the polynucleotides and fragments thereof, as well as their functional equivalents. The present invention also relates to the use of said polynucleotides and polypeptides as biotechnological tools in the production of Vitamin C from microorganisms, whereby a modification of said polynucleotides and/or encoded polypeptides has a direct or indirect impact on yield, production, and/or efficiency of production of the fermentation product in said microorganism.

Abstract: The invention provides strains of bacteria, especially enterotoxigenic E. coli, attenuated by mutations in the genes encoding enterotoxins (LT, ST, EAST1) and optionally further attenuated by deletion of additional chromosomal genes. In addition the invention provides strains of attenuated bacteria expressing immunogenic but non-toxic variants of one or more of these enterotoxins. These bacteria are useful as a vaccine against diarrhoeal disease.

Abstract: A low-index silica coating may be made by forming silica sol comprising a silane and/or a colloidal silica. The silica precursor may be deposited on a substrate (e.g., glass substrate) to form a coating layer. The coating layer may then be cured and/or fired using temperature(s) of from about 550 to 700° C. A capping layer composition comprising an antifog composition including a siloxane and/or hydrofluororether may be formed, deposited on the coating layer, then cured and/or fired to form a capping layer The capping layer improves the durability of the coating. The low-index silica based coating may be used as an antireflective (AR) film on a front glass substrate of a photovoltaic device (e.g., solar cell) or any other suitable application in certain example instances.

The transition detection circuitry comprises: a clock signal generator for generating a detection clock signal from a clock signal clocking a sampling element within said circuit, said detection clock signal defining said detection period; a plurality of transition detectors for detecting transitions at respective ones of said plurality of nodes during said detection period, each of said plurality of transition detectors being clocked by said detection clock signal; and combining circuitry for combining said detected transitions output by said plurality of transition detectors to generate a composite transition detection signal.
Abstract: Gas of a predetermined pressure, which is equal to or higher than the atmospheric pressure, is filled in a damper chamber of a damper member that includes first and second-side diaphragms. A first-side limiting portion of a first-side cover member and a second-side limiting portion of a second-side cover member are engageable with a first-side concave portion of the first-side diaphragm and a second-side concave portion of the second-side diaphragm, respectively, to limit bulging of the damper member when a pressure of a fluid chamber is equal to or less than the predetermined pressure.
Abstract: This specification is generally related to reinforced, parchmented paper, composite, reinforced parchmented paper and methods of manufacture thereof. The reinforced, parchmented paper may be used to form a sausage casing.

Abstract: It is made possible to reduce the write magnetic field generated from the main magnetic pole toward the spin torque oscillator, so as to reduce the variation in the oscillation characteristics of the spin torque oscillator, and reduce the current required for oscillation. The magnetic head assembly includes: a recording magnetic pole; a spin torque oscillator that has first and second magnetic layers, and an intermediate layer interposed between the first and second magnetic layers, the spin torque oscillator generating a high-frequency magnetic field by applying a current between the first and second magnetic layers; and a third magnetic layer that is placed adjacent to at least part of a side face of the second magnetic layer.

Abstract: A data processing system 2 executes non-native program instructions using either a first execution environment 14 or a second execution environment 22. The first execution environment identifies at runtime if non-native program instructions to be executed are marked as intended for execution by the second execution environment. When such instructions are encountered the first execution environment triggers performance of data processing operations as specified by the one or more marked program instructions performed by the second execution environment. When those processing operations as specified by the one or more marked program instructions have been completed, a return is made to the first execution environment.

Abstract: A test system for testing a pair of telecommunications access networks, e.g. as part of transfer engineering. The system comprises a test head for connection, via an access arrangement, to first and second access networks. In a first phase, the access arrangement is arranged to connect the test head to the first access network for sending a first request from the tester to, for example, a CLI server via the first access network. The first request comprises a parameter associated with a user line. The tester is arranged to receive in response to the first request a first identifier from the server. In a second phase, the access arrangement is arranged to connect the test head to the second access network for sending a second request from the test head through the second access network to, for example, a CLI server. The second request also comprises the parameter.

Abstract: The present invention relates to authenticating a mobile device using logical location information associated with the device which provides an indication of the proximity of the device to other devices. The present invention provides a mechanism for authenticating a mobile device based on location related information or a “logical location”, but without requiring an actual location. The mobile user device identifies or discovers other devices, using direct wireless communication, within its vicinity and forwards this information to the authenticating authority. If this information matches previous or otherwise predetermined information, then the device is authenticated.
