  • Patent number: 5575940
Abstract: Particles having a controlled particle size distribution and morphology are made from inorganic hydrophilic materials by dispersing inorganic hydrophilic material in a dispersant to form a dispersion phase, and mixing the dispersion phase with a substantially water-immiscible suspending liquid, which is less polar than the dispersant, to form a suspension of dispersion phase droplets in the suspending liquid. The dispersion phase droplets are stabilized by a dispersion of an organic colloidal stabilizer which is added either to the suspending liquid before mixing or to the suspension of dispersion phase droplets after mixing. The organic stabilizer limits the coalescence of the dispersion phase droplets. The dispersant is removed to form solid inorganic particles having a controlled particle size distribution and morphology.

  • Patent number: 5503751
Abstract: It is known to treat the effluent resulting from photographic processing apparatus. Such treatment takes the form of either neutralization where the effluent is mixed with a neutralizing solution prior to disposal, or evaporation where the effluent is heated to form a precipitate and a concentrated liquid portion prior to disposal. However, both these techniques have disadvantages they do not account for toxic particles which may be suspended in the solutions. Described herein is apparatus in which photographic effluent can be treated to provide harmless end products which can be disposed of directly. The apparatus comprises a mixing unit (10) in which the effluent (S1) is mixed with treatment chemicals (S2, S3, S4, P1, P2, P3) and is then passed to a separation unit (20) in which the treated effluent is separated into non-toxic liquid and solid phases. A computer (100) is used to control all stages of the treatment of the effluent.

  • Patent number: 5240800
Abstract: A photoelectrographic element for electrostatic imaging, containing a conductive layer and a photosensitive layer, is produced using photosensitive layer materials which form a barrier to charge injection where exposed to near-infrared radiation. As a result, exposed areas can be charged, while unexposed portions cannot. The photosensitive layer contains an organic photoconductor, a near-infrared radiation sensitizer, and, optionally, an organic binder. A method of forming images with this phctoelectrographic element is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5232804
Abstract: An electrophotographic element comprises a single aggregate photoconductive layer which contains a continuous phase that has a high glass transition temperature T.sub.g, of at least about 110.degree. C. The required high glass transition temperatures can be obtained by using compositions for the aggregate photoconductive layer that contain organic charge transport agents with high glass transition temperatures or polymer binders with high glass transition temperatures, or combinations of both. In a preferred embodiment an aggregating bisphenol A polycarbonate is used in combination with a cobinder polymer that has a high glass transition temperature. The electrophotographic element of the invention can be dried at temperatures of at least about 100.degree. C., and preferably from about 110.degree. C. to about 145.degree. C., to eliminate the solvent used in coating.
