  • Patent number: 6678415
Abstract: A text recognition system represents the decoded message of a document image as a path through an image network. A method for integrating a language model into the network selectively expands the network to accommodate the language model only for certain ones of the paths in the network, effectively managing the memory storage requirements and computational complexities of integrating the language model efficiently into the network. The language model generates probability distributions indicating the probability of a certain character occurring in a string, given one or more previous characters in the string. Selectively expanding the image network is achieved by initially using upper bounds on the language model probabilities on the branches of an unexpanded image network. A best path search operation is then performed to determine an estimated best path through the image network using these upper bound scores.

  • Patent number: 5322606
Abstract: A cold welding system in which a dual sputtering device is carried on a rotatable arm and is rotated into a coating position between two stationary aligned substrates on a press and simultaneously coats both substrates and then is rotated out of the coating position so the coated substrates can be pressed together. A pair of shutters are pivotably connected to the rotatable arm and can be pivoted from a sputtered blocking position, where the shutters block sputtering in a direction towards the substrates, to a sputterer operating position where the shutters permit sputtering towards the substrates.

  • Patent number: 5322594
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a one piece full width ink jet printing bar starting with a glass or ceramic plate with conductive vias, metal interconnects and ink feeds preformed on the plate. Heater filaments are formed from a suitable metal such as tungsten, nickel or tantalum on the plate and insulated from the metal interconnects with silicon nitride. Jet chambers and transport chambers to transport the ink from the ink feeds to the jet chambers are formed using sacrificial material and a structural layer. After the structural layer has been patterned the sacrificial material is removed forming the jet chambers and the transport chambers. Bonding bumps are then formed on the reverse side of the ceramic or glass plate from the jet chambers to provide connections to electronic components which determine which ink jet chambers should fire.

  • Patent number: 5304836
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a high voltage field effect transistor (FET) constructed on the major surface of a substrate of a first conductivity type. The FET includes a drain region of a second conductivity type located in the major surface and a generally annular drift region of the second conductivity type, located in the major surface and outside of the drain region. A generally annular gate is located on the major surface and outside of the drift region, and a generally annular source region is located in the major surface and outside of the gate. A first channel stop is located in the major surface and outboard of the source region, and a second channel stop located in the major surface and beneath the gate, having at least two portions in close proximity to each other. A channel region is located in the major surface and between the two second channel stop portions. The second channel stop blocks communication between the source region and the drift region except through the channel region.
