  • Patent number: 5817107
Abstract: A grasping instrument provided with a guided-on, attachable, modified knot pusher and designed for positioning and fixing a knot in a suture at a remote surgical location. The knot is easily formed outside the patient's abdominal cavity by hand and fixed on the instrument tip. After intra-abdominal insertion, the knot pusher serves to forward the knot on the thread and to immediately tighten it without any troublesome instrument change being required. A spring-loaded mechanism enables the applied force to be predetermined for achieving a reliable knot strength.

  • Patent number: 5810864
Abstract: A surgical instrument system for the use in minimal invasive surgery is adaptable to all surgical tasks by interchangeable instrument heads with different surgical tools. The instrument holder includes a handgrip, a tube extending therefrom and a shaft. The shaft is slidably received in the tube and selectively engaged with the trigger handle of the handgrip. At a distal tie-in point different interchangeable instrument heads are connected tensile resistent to the shaft and their function is actuated with the trigger handle via the same shaft. With the aid of a grip member provided at its proximal end, the shaft is operated to set its tie-in points in function.

  • Patent number: 5801792
Abstract: A single gun projection cathode ray tube (CRT) which permits the generation of high brightness image output. The crux of the invention is the provision, in the CRT, of an optically reflecting high thermal conductivity metal plate-like member positioned in the path of the electron beam, the surface of the metal plate-like member, which is directed toward both the electron gun and the faceplate of the CRT, being coated with a monochrome phosphor and being cooled by external means. The CRT is capable of producing monochrome images which are reflected by the phosphor-bearing surface of the metal plate-like member toward the faceplate of the CRT and, upon passing through the faceplate, may be projected directly onto a display screen. Alternatively, the CRT can produce projected field sequential color images when it is used either with a synchronized color wheel or with a synchronized liquid crystal shutter color filter interposed between the metal plate-like member of the CRT and the associated display screen.

  • Patent number: 5678762
Abstract: In an assembly for use in fastening a railway rail to an underlying rail foundation, a resilient railway rail fastening clip (1, 2,3) has at least one portion (1a) which when in use bears on, and extends substantially parallel to, a flange (301) of an adjacent railway rail (300), and retains an insulator (13, 13') for electrically insulating the clip (1, 2, 3) from the rail (300) when in use. The insulator (13) is held in engagement with the clip (1, 2, 3), which has a rail bearing portion of substantially circular cross-section, such that it can rotate about the longitudinal axis of the said rail bearing portion (1a). Unlike the prior art the insulator is self-aligning on the rail flange (301) when the rail (300) moves. One insulator (13, 13') disclosed has at least two load bearing surfaces (13a), such that it may be rotated so as to present an unworn load bearing surface (13a) to the rail flange (301).

  • Patent number: 5607074
Abstract: A baby bottle with two open ends and two end caps for securing a nipple and a pressure relief valve assembly to the ends of the bottle. The valve assembly includes an outwardly flanged inverted cup-shaped valve seat member having a base provided with an axial bore which extends from the inner to the outer face of the base and accommodates a reciprocally axially movable valve stem. The valve stem at one end thereof defines a valve head normally received in the valve seat-defining end region of the bore under the biasing force of a spring interposed between the inner face of the base and a snap-on disc carried by the valve stem.

  • Patent number: 5605284
Abstract: An elastic rail clamp (10), for fastening a rail to an underlying rail plate or rail tie (1). The clamp is of the type comprising a pair of substantially parallel members (19) folded into a D configuration so as to have a front toe portion (16) adapted to seat on a flange of the rail, which toe portion is formed by respective free end regions (18) of the substantially parallel members, and to also have a base portion (11) adapted to seat in a slot (4) in the rail plate or a shoulder secured to the rail tie.

  • Patent number: 5593436
Abstract: A posterior capsular opacification-inhibiting device designed for in-the-bag implantation has a pair of 360.degree. concentric endless rings having different diameters and interconnected by bridging elements disposing the plane of the outer ring anteriorly offset relative to the plane of the inner ring. The outer diameter of the outer ring is slightly larger than the inner diameter of the capsular bag at the equator thereof.
