  • Patent number: 7175171
Abstract: Support mechanism for supporting parallels in a vise that includes an elongated flat base member having a magnet mounted on the bottom thereof in conjunction with the springs, hold one of the parallels against the solid jaw of the vice. Each of a pair of arms pivotally mounted at one of its ends by pins are pivotally mounted in the opposing ends of the base member and are spring loaded by a pair of springs mounted in complementary recesses formed in and at either end of the base member and in the adjacent arm adjacent to the pins. The pair of torsional springs surrounding each of said pins and bearing against the wall surfaces of the recesses in the base member and the respective arms urge the base member against one of the parallels and urge the ends of the other arms against the other of the parallels securing the parallels to the jaws of the vice. The parallels serve to adjust the height of the work piece so as to perform a manufacturing procedure thereto.

  • Patent number: 7144415
Abstract: For suture tying in a medical procedure including the use of an anchor that includes a suture locking device that includes a sliding pin guided by axial side slots formed in the locking device that forces the suture where the two ends thereof are inserted into the interior of the suture locking mechanism to drive the captured suture and pin to fit into a recess on the top of the suture locking mechanism such that the top of the pin binds the suture against the upper inner surface of the recess. The recess can be serrated to enhance the locking capability and the pin is polygonal shaped to provide side surfaces that run parallel to the wall of the recess to assure that the side portion of the pin does not fracture the suture and cause it to weaken. The locking of the suture is automatic upon the deployment of the anchor which actuates the pin into the locking position, thus eliminating the necessity of manually knotting the suture and improving the cinching of the tissue to the bone.

  • Patent number: 7129987
Abstract: The resolution, in terms of numbers of pixels in horizontal and vertical directions, and frame rate, in terms of frames per second, of video data are converted by assembling a group of the frames within an input buffer, by applying a direct DCT to data from each line of pixels extending along a scan line and among scan lines, perpendicular to the scan lines, and to a line of pixels extending at each pixel position among the group of frames, and by applying an interpolating inverse DCT to coefficients generated by the direct DCT. Preferably, to prevent the formation of artifacts, the application of the direct DCT to data from a line of pixels is interrupted when a difference in a coordinate data value between adjacent pixels exceeds a threshold limit.

  • Patent number: 7124716
Abstract: An internal combustion engine having a cylindrical outer housing with inner cylindrical cylinders defining power cylinders circumferentially spaced in the engine. Each of the cylinder(s) has opposed intake and exhaust pistons. The intake and exhaust pistons use air bearings instead of conventional oil as a lubricant. The intake and exhaust pistons power a rotary cam mounted on opposed ends of the engine and a cam follower system positions the pistons. The rotary cam is operatively connected to a drive shaft or power take off shaft. A four bar linkage system is connected to the piston rod to minimize piston side loads. A jumper connects the ends of the power cylinders to pressurize air drawn into the engine and to admit heated air, indirectly heated during the combustion cycle, to charge the power cylinder for improved efficiency and to purge the pressure cylinder after combustion.

  • Patent number: 7104752
Abstract: The segments of the vanes of a stator and the blades of a rotor for a gas turbine engine are dampened by utilizing braided wire cable that is affixed to adjacent segments such that each of the wire strands forming the cable is allowed to move relative to each other to dissipate the vibratory energy inflicted on the stator or rotor. The ends of the cable are welded or heated and then tapered to facilitate fitting into a sleeve or collar which in turn is affixed to the adjacent segments by braze, weld or the like.

  • Patent number: 6877952
Abstract: The clearance between the tips of the rotor blades and the segmented shroud of a gas turbine engine is controlled by a passive clearance control that includes a support ring made from a low thermal expansion material supporting a retainer for the blade outer air seal that is slidable relative thereto so that the segments expand circumferentially and move radially to match the rate of change slope of the rotor during expansion and contraction for all engine operations. • Patent number: 6877323
Abstract: The microturbine engine that is typically utilized to power an electrical generating system and/or boiler, chiller and the like includes a second boiler and a by-pass system for providing heated water at two different levels or where one of the boilers provides steam. The turbine exhaust is utilized as the heat transport medium and is directly connected to one of the boilers while the other is connected to the recuperator. The system can optionally provide cooling to the electrical and electronic components of the system by providing a water circuit for leading water into the electric and electronic components prior to feeding the boilers. The system is designed to assure that the delta heat difference between the medium being heated and the waste heat of the turbine is sufficient so that the heat exchange will be done efficiently.
