Patent number: 4061163Abstract: Electrochemical cells containing highly reactive anodes are filled with a volatile electrolyte under controlled pressure conditions in a controllable pressure chamber. The cells are placed in the chamber with the fill port down and the chamber evacuated to a high vacuum for a given period of time. Thereafter, the pressure is increased to above the boiling point of the electrolyte being employed. A measured amount of electrolyte is then introduced to the chamber and the chamber is returned to atmospheric pressure and then raised to a pressure above atmospheric to force the electrolyte into the evacuated cell. The pressure is maintained at this level for a time sufficient to allow absorption of the electrolyte by the porous electrodes in the cell and then the excess electrolyte is blown from the chamber under pressure. Upon removal of the electrolyte the chamber is vented to the atmosphere and the cells removed and positioned with the fill ports up. The cells are now ready for final hermetic sealing.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1976Date of Patent: December 6, 1977Assignee: GTE Sylvania IncorporatedInventors: John J. Decker, Charles R. Ricards

Patent number: 4061945Abstract: The invention provides an improvement in the means for supporting a container of effusive material located on the terminal end of an antenna-type positioning member for use in a cathode ray tube. The supporting structure is comprised of a rotatable member accommodated on axle means affixed to the positioning member at a region rearward from the forward edge of the material container. An augmentive fender-like protective component is associated with the rotatable member to shield that member from effusive material and to prevent any accumulated electric charge thereon from interfering with the scanning of the electron beam in the tube.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1976Date of Patent: December 6, 1977Assignee: GTE Sylvania IncorporatedInventors: David Benda, Charles A. Patent number: 4057508Abstract: In europium-activated alkaline earth mixed halide x-ray phosphor compositions the addition of minor amounts of yttrium significantly reduces afterglow or persistance. A syngeristic effect upon the reduction of afterglow is observed when both yttrium and lithium additives are both included. Additions of other rare earths and alkali metals are not effective to reduce afterglow. The effective amount of Y is from about 0.001 to about 0.1 moles of yttrium per mole of host. When lithium is used in conjunction with yttrium, about 0.001 to about 0.1 moles of lithium per mole of host is used.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1976Date of Patent: November 8, 1977Assignee: GTE Sylvania IncorporatedInventors: Robert Wade Wolfe, Russell Francis Messier

Patent number: 4057759Abstract: Receiving apparatus for processing differential quadrature phase shift keyed (DQPSK) signals. Received 70 MHz IF signals are mixed with a 70 MHz reference frequency to provide quadrature components of each received signal. The resultant of the quadrature components of each signal is converted to a digital representation. The digital representations are sampled at sixteen times the baud rate. Samples are subtracted by two's complement addition and the difference produced by samples from two successive received signals is read out as the data encoded in the signal. The resultant of each two's complement addition is monitored to determine if there is no difference indicating that the samples are from the same received signal or if there is a difference indicating that the samples are from different received signals.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 1976Date of Patent: November 8, 1977Assignee: GTE Sylvania IncorporatedInventors: Arthur F. Patent number: 4050039Abstract: A magnetic trip assembly for use in a device such as an electric circuit breaker. The magnetic trip assembly includes a magnet and an armature arranged with respect to the magnet to coact with a pole face of the magnetic member which is in a plane normal to the magnetic plane of the magnetic member. An electrical load conductor is coupled to the magnetic member and establishes together with the magnetic member a magnetic field for closure of the armature in response to specified, excessive values (short circuit or overload values) of current passing through the load conductor. When the armature is operated to its closed position, a first portion of an actuating and latch member abutting against the armature is caused to move, in turn causing a captive, generally-cylindrical portion of the actuating and latch member to rotate.Type: GrantFiled: January 2, 1976Date of Patent: September 20, 1977Assignee: Zinsco Electrical ProductsInventor: Gerald J.
