Abstract: An improvement for inhibiting arcing within a cathode ray tube comprises a combination including a low resistive electrical coating disposed interiorly on the forward portion of the funnel, joined with a high resistive coating disposed interiorly on the rearward portion thereof. Associated therewith are getter means having discretely shaped diffusion direction means to prevent the formation of a conductive path across the high resistive coating. The improved arc suppression combination beneficially improves the dielectric breakdown protection for both the tube and the associated circuitry.
Abstract: Synthetic cordierite (2Mg0,2Al.sub. 2 O.sub. 3.5SiO.sub. 2) ceramic bodies exhibiting low thermal expansions are characterized by a microstructure containing less than 10 percent by volume glass and by microcracks of certain size and frequency of occurrence and may be produced, for example, by (1) dry ball milling talc, ball clay and alpha alumina in noncontaminating media, (2) consolidating the mixture to form a green body, (3) heating the green body at a rate of up to 150.degree.C per hour to a temperature within the range of 1350.degree. to 1425.degree.C, (4) holding the body at this temperature for a time of from 1/2 to 10 hours, and (5) cooling the body to below 1,000.degree.C at a rate of up to 150.degree.C per hour. Such bodies possess good to excellent thermal shock resistance, and chemical durability and are useful, for example, as components in gas turbine engines.

Abstract: Metal mounting brackets for mounting electrical wiring boxes to studs. A metal mounting bracket in accordance with a first embodiment of the invention is basically Z-shaped and includes a first flat portion adapted to be attached to an electrical wiring box, a second flat portion generally normal to the first portion and including a pair of generally U-shaped stud-embracing members, and a third flat portion generally normal to the second portion and having a pair of spaced, initially-flat pair of tabs extending outwardly from an edge thereof, each of the tabs having a pair of stud-biting teeth extending therefrom. The third portion further has a pair of tool-receiving openings therein, each adjacent to a corresponding one of the tabs and arranged to receive a standard adjustable plier. In mounting a wiring box to a stud, for example, to a metal stud, the U-shaped members of the second portion of the bracket are first arranged by an installer to embrace a first corner region of the stud.
Abstract: Communication switching system employing several stages of solid state crosspoint switching circuits. Biasing current is supplied to the SCR's of the switching circuits by biasing current control arrangements which provide a relatively heavy current to SCR's being turned on and a relatively low current sufficient to sustain conduction to operating SCR's subsequent to their being turned on.
Abstract: A circuit for automatically setting the black level in a television receiver includes a comparator circuit coupled to a source of video signals, an adjustable DC potential, and a disabling potential and providing a control signal representative of a video information signal and vertical blanking signal in excess of a threshold level with a detector and limiter providing a DC potential derived from the control signal for setting the black level of a signal available at the video signal source.
Abstract: There is disclosed an electrical contact and a method and apparatus for making said electrical contact wherein the contact comprises at least one formed tine portion, a central retaining portion, and a tail portion. Secured to this tine portion is a precious metal contact material comprised of a first layer of a base material and a second layer of a precious metal.
Abstract: Terbium-activated rare-earth oxysulfide X-ray phosphors containing small amounts of cerium exhibit shorter decay times than the same materials without cerium. X-ray intensifying screens employing such phosphors enable improved resolution.

Abstract: Free flowing powders such as for flame spray applications are produced by agglomerating finely divided material, classifying the agglomerates to obtain a desired size range, entraining the agglomerates in a carrier gas, feeding the agglomerates through a high temperature plasma reactor to cause at least partial melting of the particles, and collecting the particles in a cooling chamber containing a protective gaseous atmosphere, wherein the particles are solidified.

Abstract: A fast warm up, die-drawn, low mass cathode cap is substantially cup-shaped having a closed end and an upstanding side wall integral therewith. Abstract: Free flowing powders, such as for flame spray applications, are produced by spray drying a slurry of finely divided particles of the metal in a solvent-binder system to produce agglomerates, wherein the binder is a soluble compound of the metal. These agglomerates possess sufficient green strength to be screened and exhibit higher apparent densities than comparable powders agglomerated with conventional organic binders. When these powders are heated in a reducing atmosphere above the decomposition temperature of the binder, the binder converts to base metal and harmless by-products, such as nitrogen and water thus avoiding contamination of the product, equipment and work area usually associated with conventional organic binders.

Abstract: An improvement in the means for supporting individually shielded cathodes is provided in a plural beam cathode ray tube electron generating assembly incorporating an in-line electron gun arrangement integrated by four spaced-apart longitudinal insulative rod-like supporting members. Each of the individual all-metal cathode assemblies is separately supported in a spatial manner apart from the related cup-like control electrode wherein a portion of the respective cathode assembly is oriented. The three cathode positioning members have discretely formed extremital portions embedded in the longitudinal supporting member to provide improved shielding and enhanced structural end-support for the in-line gun assembly.
Abstract: An improvement is provided in a plural beam cathode ray tube electron gun assembly wherein positive positioning and embedment of the heater support means is achieved. One of a plurality of heater support means is oriented in each of a plurality of longitudinal rods supporting the gun assembly, in the area intervening between the embedded termini of two adjacently positioned cathode assembly support means positioned in side-by-side relationship. During gun assembly fabrication, localized movement of the softened glass of the rod, is restricted between the termini thereby effecting improved embedment of the heater support therebetween.
Abstract: A nickel-base thermocouple with improved EMF stability is described, the positive thermoelement of which is a nominal Ni/14.25Cr/1.45Si/.1Mg alloy and the negative thermoelement of which is a nominal Ni/4Si/.1Mg alloy.
Abstract: A digital receiver for receiving 8-bit permutable address code words. Before receiving each address code word the receiver must be activated by receiving five consecutive identical words of an interdigit signal of alternating 1's and 0's. The receiver must then receive the same address code word five times in succession in order to accept it. The incoming signals are applied to a 9-bit shift register. Each bit is counted by a counter, but if the bits in the first and ninth stages of the shift register are different, the counter is cleared. When the count in the counter indicates five identical 8-bit words have been received in succession and an interdigit detector detects that the word in the last eight stages of the shift register is an interdigit word, a state flip-flop is set activating the receiver.
Abstract: Load engaging and gripping apparatus for attachment to the lifting mechanism of a conventional lift truck for handling loads which are crushable and yet may be compressed slightly without damage thereto. The apparatus comprises a lift assembly adapted for mounting on a lift mechanism of a lift truck with opposed carrier plates affixed to opposite ends of the lift assembly. The carrier plates on their confronting faces slidably mount load engaging and gripping platens whereby when the opposed platens are in contact with the load under light frictional engagement and the lift assembly is moved vertically upward, the platens will be moved inwardly toward each other to frictionally and firmly grip the load therebetween for lift purposes.
Abstract: Load engaging and gripping apparatus for attachment to the lifting mechanism of a conventional lift truck for handling loads which are crushable and yet may be compressed slightly without damage thereto. The apparatus comprises a clamping assembly adapted for mounting on a lift mechanism of a lift truck with opposed load engaging and gripping platens forwardly thereof. Link members connect the platens to the lift assembly whereby when the opposed platens are in contact with the load under at rest condition and the lift assembly is then moved vertically upward said platens will be moved inwardly toward each other to frictionally and firmly grip the load therebetween for lift purposes.
Abstract: A Digital/analog conference arrangement for up to M (15) digital subscribers. The digital signals are sensed, and up to N (3) are converted at the same time to analog signals which are processed in an analog bridge, then converted to digital signals which are transmitted to the appropriate subscribers. The voice signals of each subscriber are encoded by the continuously variable slope delta modulation (CVSD) technique into a serial digital bit stream, which are time-multiplexed into 15 input channels.
Abstract: A connector fixture for joining a first structural member to a second structural member. The second structural member includes a central bore and a pair of lug receiving apertures disposed at a predetermined distance on opposite sides of the central bore. The first structural member includes a central bore adapted to register with the central bore of the second structural member and in addition has a pair of outwardly extending lugs which register with and are received in the lug receiving apertures in the second structural member, thereby properly positioning the first and second structural members relative to each other. A connector, such as a bolt and nut, is then inserted through the central bore of the first and second structural members to clamp the members together.

Abstract: A configurated expanse of metal is provided for orientation within a cathode ray tube envelope, attachment thereof being made with the interior surface of the electrical connective button located substantially in the funnel portion of the tube. The metallic expanse is shaped to provide regional shielding of the area involving the traversal button, and effects increased areal contact between the coating disposed on the internal surface of the envelope and the traversal button sealed therein.
