Patent number: 4293153Abstract: A spring steel spring interlocked with a panelboard assembly door by a pull having a leg projecting through the door to engage a passage edge in the spring. When the pull is rotated to open the door the leg moves the spring to disengage a latch adjacent one end of the spring from behind a detent in a frame latch passage. The detent in the frame passage engages the latch to hold the door from rapid opening, if a circuit breaker trips to generate arc gases which exert pressure against the door, but permits separation of the door from the frame and flexure of the door to vent arc gases.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 1979Date of Patent: October 6, 1981Assignee: Square D CompanyInventors: Harris I. Stanback, Theodore L. Brann, Larry D. Polston

Patent number: 4261189Abstract: A retainer plate is pivotally mounted on a panelboard cabinet door lock housing, which carries a latch for locking the door. A detent on the plate engages in a rabbet opening to enable limited opening movement of the door in response to the pressure developed by arc gases generated by fault currents passing through a tripped circuit breaker in the panelboard cabinet. For ordinary opening movement, the lock latch is manually operated to pivot the retainer plate and disengage the detent from the rabbet opening.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1979Date of Patent: April 14, 1981Assignee: Square D CompanyInventors: Walter T. Patent number: 4251851Abstract: The following specification describes a panelboard assembly comprising a plurality of modular insulators each having an integrally formed resilient bead for engaging a circuit breaker housing recess to support a circuit breaker. A tongue on each insulator assists in disengaging the circuit breaker from the bead. Longitudinally extending bus bars are supported by the insulators in heat transmitting relationship to the metal wall of an enclosure. The insulators have long surface paths between adjacent bus bars and bus stabs to prevent electrical leakage. A neutral assembly in close space saving relationship to the bus bars and for convenient wiring is provided together with partition walls between phase bus bars and between individual bus stabs.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 1978Date of Patent: February 17, 1981Assignee: Square D CompanyInventors: Raymond A. Patent number: 4197567Abstract: A ground fault circuit interrupter which utilizes one trip coil to perform the combined functions of interrupting a circuit on occurrence of a ground fault as well as an under voltage condition. An electronic module supplies continuous current to the trip coil until a ground fault or under voltage condition occurs. The armature is spring biased in a direction away from the trip coil, with tension of the spring adjusted to pull the armature away from the trip coil when voltage in the coil decreases below a selected amplitude.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 1978Date of Patent: April 8, 1980Assignee: Square D CompanyInventors: Robert E. Patent number: 4194378Abstract: The following specification describes a plurality of combination lock cylinders, each of the axially movable tumbler pin type and each having a drive plate initially rotatable in a selected one of two directions by the tumbler operating pins of a respective operating key to control a bolt. A lock cylinder extraction key having tumbler pins universal to each lock cylinder rotates the drive plate in the direction opposite the selected direction to align a slot in the drive plate with a boss in the housing for enabling removal of a respective lock cylinder from its housing. Each lock cylinder has one pair of bayonet slots extending in the selected direction and engaged only by bayonet pins on the respective operating key for enabling rotation of the drive plate only in the selected direction and another pair of axially offset bayonet slots extending in the opposite direction and engaged only by bayonet pins on the lock cylinder extraction key to enable rotation of the drive plate only in the opposite direction.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 1978Date of Patent: March 25, 1980Assignee: Square D CompanyInventors: David L. Patent number: 4194100Abstract: The following specification describes a circuit breaker enclosure having a cover, which is latched closed by spring biased latch handles. The handles and cover move in response to gas pressure for relieving the pressure generated on tripping of the circuit breaker. The latch handles are arranged to point outwardly of the enclosure, when open, to provide a clear visual indication of their being open. The circuit breaker handle and enclosure handle are directly engaged with a common pivot pin for synchronous movement to enable the enclosure handle to indicate the trip condition of the breaker. When the cover is open, the handles are interlocked against movement to an ON position by a biased pivotable interlock plate. The cover in turn is latched closed through the interlock plate and a breaker handle plate, when the circuit breaker enclosure handles are in the ON position. A pair of spaced edge projections on the enclosure wall engage the cover sealing gasket to avoid a permanent compression set in the gasket.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1977Date of Patent: March 18, 1980Assignee: Square D CompanyInventors: Russell Cox, Joseph C. Patent number: 4181836Abstract: The following specification describes a thin walled insulating boot formed of a thermoplastic molding material and attached by means of the circuit breaker in encircling relationship to the open end of the breaker. The boot prevents ionized gas created when the circuit breaker is tripped from completing a circuit path to adjacent metal portions. The boot walls extend past the open end of the breaker and a back wall spaced from the open end of the circuit breaker defines a chamber enabling expansion of the ionized gas.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1977Date of Patent: January 1, 1980Assignee: Square D CompanyInventor: William C. Patent number: 4178468Abstract: The following specification describes a feeder duct post assembly including a conduit for extending electrical connections from above a suspended ceiling to an outlet receptacle located between a pair of spaced barrier walls in the post. An upper wall on the conduit forms a lower wall of a junction box at the upper end of the post and defines a passage for extending communication wiring through the post to an outlet passage located above the outlet receptacle and barrier walls. The junction box has a cover movable between an open and closed positions, while retained on the box to enable wiring of the junction box. A boot on the lower end of the post optionally receives a plate having prongs to secure the post to carpeting or receives a pad or plate having an adhesive coat to secure the post to smooth flooring.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 1977Date of Patent: December 11, 1979Assignee: Square D CompanyInventors: George N. Jorgensen, Stephen L. Flee, James C. Carroll
