  • Patent number: 6792518
Abstract: In a data storage system providing access to a production dataset and snapshot copies of the production dataset, a production meta bit map identifies blocks of storage that are invalid in the production dataset. If a block in the production dataset is invalid when a snapshot copy is being made, then there is no need to copy the block to storage for the snapshot before writing to the block. Moreover, if a block in the production dataset supporting a snapshot copy is dynamically invalidated, it may be kept in the production dataset until it is written to. For this purpose, a respective snapshot copy of the meta bit map is made and kept with each of the snapshot datasets, and the snapshot copies of the meta bit map are merged in order to indicate the blocks that are invalid for all of the snapshots.

  • Patent number: 6792047
Abstract: Time stamps in an encoded digital motion video data stream (such as an MPEG Transport Stream) are re-stamped for seamless splicing. The re-stamping includes attainment of Presentation Time Stamp (PTS) agreement in the video stream, alignment of audio stream and video stream Presentation Time Stamps, and re-stamping of the Program Clock Reference (PCR) to eliminate jitter and to comply with MPEG standards. The MPEG compliance is achieved by padding, stuffing and insertion of freeze B and P frames and pre-encoded black I frames. Freeze frame insertion can be also achieved by replacing B and P frames by, smaller in size, freeze B and P frames respectively. No frames are discarded such that both spatial and temporal frame accuracy (no extra frame insertion assumed) is achieved.

  • Patent number: 6772927
Abstract: A bicycle carrier adapted to be mounted on the rear of a vehicle. The carrier comprises first and second mounting members and a pair of horizontally spaced bicycle supporting arms connected to the mounting members. The mounting members are pivotably connected for relative rotation about a horizontal pivot axis between a plurality of adjusted positions. The carrier includes indicia corresponding to each of the adjusted positions of the mounting members, so that a user can quickly return the carrier to the same adjusted position. The supporting arms carry cradles formed of an elastic material for receiving a bicycle. Each cradle includes a curved supporting surface for receiving a bar of the bicycle frame, and an integral strap which can be extended over the bar to retain the bar within the cradle. An anti-sway bar hangs downwardly from at least one of the supporting arms for resisting swinging movement of a bicycle.

  • Patent number: 6763787
Abstract: Method and device for regulating the phase angle between a first and a second crankshaft of an internal combustion engine. The engine includes primary cylinders that communicate with secondary cylinders and in every primary cylinder there is movably arranged a primary piston that is connected to the first crankshaft and in every secondary cylinder there is movably arranged a secondary piston that is connected to the second crankshaft. The first and second crankshafts are connected to each other by means of a transmission adapted with the device that includes a crankshaft extension for obtaining the control of the phase angle, the extension being fixed against rotation and displaceably connected to one of the crankshafts and via a grooved portion rotationally connected to the second of the crankshafts. When the crankshaft extension in displaced, rotation is obtained in the grooved portion that results in a corresponding phase angle shift.

  • Patent number: 6752468
Abstract: Safety device and safety procedure in the case of a tipping dump body (2) of a truck (1), in which the dump body (2) through the operation of a control (11) in the driver's cab (4) of the vehicle (1) and by means of at least one hydraulic or pneumatic lifting cylinder (5) is designed to be moved between a lowered transport position (6) and a raised tipping position (7), and to assume a floating position, in which the lifting cylinder (5) is not pressurized and a holding position in which the lifting cylinder (5) is pressurized and the position of the dump body (2) is locked. The device includes a detector (13) that is designed for detection of the driver's presence in, or absence from the driver's cab (4), and that either a presence signal or an absence signal is delivered to the control (11) depending on whether or not the driver is in the driver's cab. The control (11) is designed, in the event of an absence signal from the detector (13), to assume the holding position.
