Abstract: A system and method provide for synchronous operation of linked command objects in a general purpose software application. The software application provides a user with a variety of operations that manipulate available data objects. The software application manages the data objects in a number of contexts. Each context manages the existence and execution of a number of command objects. Each command object operates on one or more data objects in its context. To support synchronous operations that affect the state of data objects in more than one context, command objects are linked to each other. When one command object is executed, the context of the command object identifies a command object linked to the executed command object and initiates the execution of the linked command object via the context that manages that command object. This synchronization allows for synchronous undo and redone operations. The delete states of the command objects are also synchronized.

Abstract: Methods and devices for implementing a camera restriction on a wireless handheld communication device. As more handheld devices incorporate camera functionalities, organizations and individuals with privacy concerns are more vulnerable to unauthorized disclosure. The camera restriction prevents a user from taking a picture of a subject if the device has not been steadily focused on the subject in question for a predetermined period of time. In short, this process extends the normal camera-taking procedure and thus requires the camera user to take pictures in a conspicuous manner—the rationale being that a camera user would be less likely to take unauthorized pictures if such actions could be easily recognized. The camera restriction can be communicated to the device via a wireless communication network. Additionally, the restrictions and boundaries can be communicated to the device as part of an IT security policy.

Abstract: A search facility may optimize search result ranking by applying inverted decay transformations to history-dependent ranking components. Ranking scores for content in a content collection may be based on a set of ranking components including history-dependent ranking components. History-dependent ranking components may be based on historical behavioral data such as historical searches, actions taken with respect to content such as viewing content and content-related purchases. Content recently added to the content collection may be disadvantaged relative to content with an established history. Inverted decay transformations may correspond to simulations of additional historical behavioral data.

Abstract: Methods and arrangements for selecting a content source from a plurality of potential content sources based on program information are described. A network resource maintains a mapping between itself and a static URL to be accessed by an application when updating content used in the application. The network resource can receive, over an electronic network, a configuration request providing the static URL and program information that at least identifies the application and version of the application. Based on the received information that is specific to the identified application version and from which content specific for that application version can be obtained, the network resource determines a second URL and provides the second URL to the application in response to the request.

Abstract: Technology is provided to manage requests for physical resources in computing systems using system-aware scheduling techniques. Transactions having two or more dependent requests for a physical resource are identified by the computing system. Information identifying the requests as part of a dependent transaction is passed with the requests for the physical resource. In at least one mode of operation, a scheduler corresponding to the physical resource allocates submission of the requests to the physical resource using the dependent transaction information.

Abstract: A humeral prosthesis, for the articulation of a humerus in a scapula of a shoulder having a glenoid cavity, includes an articulation device able to be associated both with an articulation element mounted on the glenoid cavity, and also at the top of said humerus by an attachment element. The articulation device comprises a first element able to articulate with the articulation element and a second element associated with the attachment element, the first element and the second element being pivoted to each other around a pivoting axis to allow a free relative rotation thereof around the pivoting axis.

Abstract: A method for displaying a search history for a user is shown. The method includes generating a search history for a user including one or more listings of search results, displaying a first search result listing on a web page, and displaying at least a second search result listing on the web page, the second search result listing having a relationship to the first search result listing within the search history.

Abstract: A system and method uses a communication request and/or historical data collected by one or more devices to identify whether to fulfill the request using ad hoc networking or access points. If an access point is determined to be used, the system and method attempts to identify those access points that can best fulfill the request and then attempts to use such access points to fulfill the request.

Abstract: A system and method splices into, or replaces routes identified based on road geometry with routes taken by the same user or other users to create alternate routes that may be selected by a user to display, for example, on a map or for which driving directions can be displayed. Communication of routes traveled by different devices may be received from a server or from another device. A naming convention for road segments and ordered paths of road segments is described.

Abstract: A circuit board in a mobile electronic device has a microphone and related amplifier and signal conditioning circuitry mounted thereon. A radio frequency (RF) shield surrounds and isolates the microphone from electromagnetic interference (EMI). The RF shield together with the circuit board forms an acoustic chamber surrounding the microphone. A hole in the RF shield permits acoustic energy to enter the acoustic chamber and reach the microphone.

Abstract: A method and device for reducing on an aircraft lateral effects of a turbulence. The device (1) includes means (2, 3, 5, 7, A1, A2) for calculating and applying a roll control command and a yaw control command enabling the side effects generated by a turbulence event to be attenuated on the aircraft.

Abstract: A self calibrating imaging display system and machine-readable storage for such systems are provided, which perform various steps. The steps include forwarding a display test pattern, where the display test pattern including a measurement field comprising approximately 10% of a total number of pixels displayed by a screen and where the measurement field can be placed at different regions of the screen. The steps also include causing the measurement field to be stepped through a sequence of values. The steps further include receiving luminance and color values from photosensors to detect distinct luminance and color levels at the different regions of the screen. The steps also include determining luminance and color correction factors by comparing the detected luminance and color values to reference luminance and color data. The steps additionally include applying the determined luminance and color correction factors to the different regions of the screen.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for rendering search results are described. In one aspect of the invention, a search request is received from a computerized client. A search is performed based on the search request in at least two different categories of information to obtain search results in the searched categories. Selected search results are returned to the client to facilitate rendering the search results at the client. Search results from different search categories are returned in a manner configured to be presented in different panes of a graphical user interface rendered on the client. In another aspect, what searches to perform can be determined based at least in part upon search results display settings associated with the client, such that searches are performed only in categories of information that are associated with a pane that is in an open state on the client.

Abstract: An IQ-imbalance of a complex receiver can be corrected by compensating the in-phase signal component and the quadrature-phase signal component produced by the complex receiver for an IQ-imbalance estimated by analyzing the in-phase signal component and the quadrature-phase signal component. A carrier signal can be received at the complex receiver. An in-phase signal component and a quadrature-phase signal component can be generated from the carrier signal. The generated in-phase signal component and the generated quadrature-phase signal component can be analyzed to estimate an IQ-imbalance. Based on the estimated IQ-imbalance, the in-phase signal component and quadrature-phase signal component can be compensated to correct the IQ-imbalance.

Abstract: A bicycle rack includes at least one arm and a cradle installed on the arm for receiving a bicycle thereon. The cradle has a body including a through-hole extending through the longitudinal length of the body. The through-hole is sized to be received by the arm of a bicycle rack. A saddle extending along a length of the longitudinal body is positioned above the through-hole and has a top surface for receiving a tube of a bicycle. The saddle is oriented cross-ways to the longitudinal axis of the through-hole. The top surface of the saddle can increase in dimension on one side of a vertical axis of the through-hole and decreases in dimension on the other side of the vertical axis as the saddle extends toward each end of the longitudinal body. A latch is positioned on opposite sides of the vertical axis at either end of the saddle.

Abstract: A system and method for addition of broad-area semiconductor laser diode arrays are described. The system can include an array of laser diodes, a V-shaped external cavity, and grating systems to provide feedback for phase-locking of the laser diode array. A V-shaped mirror used to couple the laser diode emissions along two optical paths can be a V-shaped prism mirror, a V-shaped stepped mirror or include multiple V-shaped micro-mirrors. The V-shaped external cavity can be a ring cavity. The system can include an external injection laser to further improve coherence and phase-locking.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for capturing an image on a mobile device having a flash comprising a red light source and a white light source is presented herein. A detection of a color spectrum of ambient light is made using image data sensed by an image sensor. Additionally, a determination of an intensity of red light when combined with an associated intensity of white light results in a color spectrum that substantially matches the color spectrum of the ambient light. The flash emits white light from the white light source of the flash and red light from the red light source of the flash. An image from a camera module is recorded during the emission of the white and red light.

Abstract: An integrated circuit comprises logic circuitry driven by a clock and reference circuitry. In operation, logic elements of the reference circuitry are synchronized to the clock. In operation, a first sensing circuit outputs a voltage VC proportional to an instantaneous current consumption IC of the logic circuitry, and a second sensing circuit outputs a voltage VR proportional to an instantaneous fluctuating current consumption IR of the reference circuitry. In operation, differential circuitry outputs a voltage difference ?VR?VC between a scaled-up version ?VR of the voltage VR and the voltage VC, the scaled-up version scaled to approximately the scale of the voltage VC. In operation, a square root circuit receives the voltage difference as input and outputs a square root of the voltage difference. A current source is controllable by the output of the square root circuit to generate current through a dissipative load.

Abstract: A method and system for generating advertisement sets for keywords automatically extracted from data feeds is provided. An advertisement system receives various data feeds. The advertisement system may on a periodic or an ad hoc basis request a feed server to provide the latest feed having feed items. Each feed item may include a title, a description, and a link to an associated web site. To generate an advertisement set, which includes an advertisement, a keyword, and a link to a landing page, the advertisement system extracts a keyword from a feed item, identifies a category for advertising using the extracted keyword, generates an advertisement (or “creative”) for advertising that category, and generates a landing page link associated with the category. The advertisement system then submits the advertisement set to an advertisement placement service for placement along with content that is somehow related to the keyword.
