Abstract: A rollover risk assessment system includes sensors and a processor for estimating rollover risk associated with maneuvering on varying terrain.
Abstract: Surface emitting laser arrays with intra-cavity harmonic generation are coupled to an optical system that extracts harmonic light in both directions from an intra-cavity nonlinear optical material in such a way that the focusing properties of the light beams are matched.
Abstract: A frame walker robot based on two sections connected by a parallel mechanism is described. The walker can step in any direction and can pose its free section in any orientation. Prismatic, rather than revolute, joints are used, leading to a scalable design.

Abstract: An automatic control system for passive, towed implements is described. The system provides a strategy for optimal control of a towed implement using a nudge input to an autopilot-controlled tractor. Implement path-tracking error, as measured by a GNSS receiver, is consistently corrected to zero.

Abstract: A method for predicting failures in crystalline microstructures is described. Fracture stress distribution data obtained from test samples prepared according to the same manufacturing process as a contemplated device is used to characterize the strength of surfaces in a numerical stress analysis of the device. The reliability is then calculated for surface nodes on the device. The product of all such reliabilities yields the overall reliability (or 1—the overall failure probability) of the device.
Abstract: A self-viewing environment and an apparatus enabling unrestricted movement of a subject within the self-viewing environment are disclosed. A subject wears a head mounted display that receives a video signal by wireless transmission. The subject is positioned within the field of view of a video camera that sources a video image for transmission to the subject. Video mirror-imaging and signal-processing are employed to adapt the perceived self-viewing environment for the benefit of the subject.
Abstract: A microfabricated optical wave plate comprises a reflective polarizer and a mirror separated by a fixed or variable distance. The wave plate imparts a relative phase delay on polarization components of incident light, thereby transforming the overall polarization of the light.
Abstract: Monolithic IC/MEMS processes are disclosed in which high-stress silicon nitride is used as a mechanical material while amorphous silicon serves as a sacrificial layer. Electronic circuits and micro-electromechanical devices are built on separate areas of a single wafer. The sequence of IC and MEMS process steps is designed to prevent alteration of partially completed circuits and devices by subsequent high process temperatures.
Abstract: A scalable and adaptable, six-degree-of-freedom, kinematic positioning system is described. The system can position objects supported on top of, or suspended from, jacks comprising constrained joints. The system is compatible with extreme low temperature or high vacuum environments. When constant adjustment is not required a removable motor unit is available.
Abstract: A transfer sheet placed between a vacuum chuck and a stamp in a soft lithography aligner facilitates three dimensional manufacturing with elastomeric materials.
Abstract: A low phase noise PLL synthesizer is described in which an initial tuning mechanism uses a conventional divider loop to lock a VCO to a desired output frequency. Once initial lock is achieved, the divider loop is switched out of the circuit in favor of a low phase noise mixer loop. The local oscillator signal for the mixer is derived from the same low phase noise source as the phase comparison frequency.
Abstract: A normally opaque waveguide interacting with a drop-filter cavity can be switched to a transparent state when the drop filter is also coupled to a dipole. This dipole induced transparency may be obtained even when the vacuum Rabi frequency of the dipole is much less than the cavity decay rate. The condition for transparency is a large Purcell factor. Dipole induced transparency can be used in quantum repeaters for long distance quantum communication.

Abstract: A system and method for measuring sample material properties by coherently averaging cantilever free-decay signals in a scanning probe microscope is described.
Abstract: A system and method for increasing contrast in displays using micromechanical light modulators. Contrast is enhanced by an optical system that uses polarization to discriminate unmodulated light. Contrast obtained from polarization sensitive components of an optical system has a multiplicative effect on contrast already available.
