  • Patent number: 8110339
Abstract: Multi-tone resists can enhance the resolution limit of a lithographic process by advantageously using the changeable solubility of a resist composition as a function of lithographic radiation dosage. By imaging a multi-tone resist with different doses of lithographic radiation in a selected pattern, the pattern can be imparted to the resist upon subsequent development of the resist. In some aspects, a resist composition is utilized having an aliphatic polymer (e.g., a copolymer with fluoropolymer units and/or methacrylate units) with acid labile groups and a plurality of crosslinkable groups that can be crosslinked to other portions of the aliphatic polymer. Other components such as base generators and/or crosslinking agents can also be included. Such compositions can be useful in extending the resolution of UV lithographic radiation processes (e.g., wavelengths less than 200 nm). Other aspects of such compositions and methods are also discussed.

  • Patent number: 7771773
Abstract: The present invention provides orthopedic prosthesis having at least one metallic component that includes a metallic substrate on which an integrally formed nano-crystalline coating is formed. The coating and the substrate have at least one metallic constituent in common having an average atomic concentration in the coating that differs from an average atomic concentration in the substrate by less than about 10 percent. Further, the nano-crystalline coatings includes crystalline grains with an average size in a range of about 1 to 999 nanometers, and more preferably in a range of about 10 to 200 nanometers. A transition region that exhibits a graded reduction in average grain size separates the coating from the substrate. The coating advantageously exhibits an enhanced hardness, and a high degree of resistance to corrosion and wear. In one application, the nano-crystalline coatings of the invention are utilized to form articulating surfaces of various orthopedic devices.

  • Patent number: 7762308
Abstract: Techniques for forming cast parts for medical devices suitable for contact with internal regions of patients are described herein. Such parts can be small in scale (e.g., having a major axis less than 0.3 inches, and/or a minor axis less than about 0.08 inches), and can be formed from metals that have a high melting point and high reactivity with environmental components or mold surfaces, such as stainless steel and titanium alloys. Such techniques can include injecting molten metal into the sprue of a mold tree such that the side runners are backfilled after the molten metal impacts a closed end of the sprue. Side runners can be oriented in particular directions and positions to promote backfilling. As well, flask temperatures and the use of surfactants can also promote cast part formation, hindering the formation of surface defects.

  • Patent number: 7210062
Abstract: The invention provides methods and apparatus for multiple user detection (MUD) processing that have application, for example, in improving the capacity CDMA and other wireless base stations. One aspect of the invention provides a multiprocessor, multiuser detection system for detecting user transmitted symbols in CDMA short-code spectrum waveforms. A first processing element generates a matrix (hereinafter, “gamma matrix”) that represents a correlation between a short-code associated with one user and those associated with one or more other users. A set of second processing elements generates, e.g., from the gamma matrix, a matrix (hereinafter, “R-matrix”) that represents cross-correlations among user waveforms based on their amplitudes and time lags. A third procesing element produces estimates of the user transmitted symbols as a function of the R-matrix.

The stem member has a proximal end and a distal end with at least one slot formed in the distal end. The slot extends along at least a portion of the stem member, in a longitudinal direction, from the distal end towards the proximal end to form at least two tines at the distal end of the stem. A bolt member is disposed within the bore of the stem member and has a proximal end and a distal end, wherein at least a portion of the bolt member proximate the distal end is threaded. An expander nut is disposed between the tines and is threadably matable with the distal end of the bolt member such that rotation of the bolt member in a first direction is effective to draw the expander nut towards the proximal end of the stem member to separate the tines at the distal end of the stem member.
