  • Patent number: 7669201
Abstract: The invention provides a method and system for creating a single, common installation file for multiple target device types. In one approach, the method comprises providing a base engine, compiling the engine into an intermediate language code, and just-in-time compiling the intermediate code into executable code. The latter code is executed to gather the appropriate data sets and concatenate the data sets with the engine to form the installation file. The present invention also provides a method and system for utilizing the installation file to retrieve the appropriate data set(s) for the identified target device type, and to install the retrieved data set(s) onto the target device.

  • Patent number: 7666052
Abstract: A smoke generating unit for a model vehicle controls and varies the rate at which smoke is generated by controlling power to a heater. The model vehicle is electrically driven, and the smoke-generating unit is configured to emit smoke so as to mimic varying emission from a traditionally-fueled vehicle, such as a steam-driven or diesel-driven vehicle. Smoke is generated in proportion to power supplied to the heater. A controller controls the power as a function of various control inputs, such as vehicle engine load, vehicle speed, or user input. Temperature or power feedback may be used as input for a closed-loop control process. A blower for the fan may be controlled via an analog circuit in response to velocity or load input to simulate a steam or diesel locomotive.

  • Patent number: 7660418
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling access to digital information utilizes a location identity attribute that defines a specific geographic location. The location identity attribute is associated with the digital information such that the digital information can be accessed only at the specific geographic location. The location identity attribute further includes a location value and a proximity value. The location value corresponds to a location of an intended recipient appliance of the digital information, and may be further defined in terms of latitude, longitude and altitude dimensions. The digital information is encrypted using a geolocking key based at least in part on the location identity attribute. The geolocking key is based on a shape parameter that is determined from the location identity attribute and is included with the encrypted digital information. The shape parameter describes a shape of a geographic area, but does not identify where the geographic area is located.

  • Patent number: 7659834
Abstract: A method and apparatus for designating a particular model vehicle for a command function without punching in the ID of the model vehicle. A remote control device is positioned near one of the model vehicles. A limited field transmission occurs between the model vehicle and the remote control device. The device may be a train engine transmitting its train ID periodically via an infrared (IR) transmission. The remote near the train automatically receives the IR transmission of the train ID, so that the next press of a command button will automatically go to that train ID without needing to punch in the ID number.

  • Patent number: 7658945
Abstract: The present invention provides novel compositions for the delivery of a hypnotic agent across the oral mucosa. In particular, the buffer system in the compositions of the present invention raises the pH of saliva to a pH greater than about 7.8, thereby facilitating the substantially complete conversion of the hypnotic agent from its ionized to its un-ionized form. As a result, the dose of hypnotic agent is rapidly and efficiently absorbed by the oral mucosa with surprisingly low inter-subject variability. Furthermore, delivery of the hypnotic agent across the oral mucosa advantageously bypasses hepatic first pass metabolism of the drug and avoids enzymatic degradation of the drug within the gastrointestinal tract. Methods for using the compositions of the present invention for treating sleep disorders such as insomnia are also provided.

  • Patent number: 7654978
Abstract: An evacuation sheath assembly and method of treating occluded vessels which reduces the risk of distal embolization during vascular interventions is provided. The evacuation sheath assembly includes an elongated tube defining an evacuation lumen having proximal and distal ends. A proximal sealing surface is provided on a proximal portion of the tube and is configured to form a seal with a lumen of a guided catheter. A distal sealing surface is provided on a distal portion of the tube and is configured to form a seal with a blood vessel. A method of treatment of a blood vessel using the evacuation sheath assembly includes advancing the evacuation sheath assembly into the blood vessel through a guide catheter. Prior to advancing a device across a stenosis to be treated, normal antegrade blood flow in the blood vessel proximate to the stenosis is stopped. While blood flow is stopped, the stenosis is treated.

  • Patent number: 7638946
Abstract: An electron beam amplification device provides trajectory modulation of an electron beam, and includes an electron gun, a modulator, an interceptor, an output circuit, and a collector. The electron gun produces an electron beam. The modulator receives an RF input signal and provides a corresponding electromagnetic field region that alters trajectory of the electron beam in correspondence with the RF input signal. The interceptor has at least one aperture oriented such that the electron beam transmits through the aperture when the electron beam altered by the modulator follows a particular transmission path and impacts upon the interceptor when the electron beam trajectory altered by the modulator follows a path other than the particular transmission path. The output circuit is arranged so that the electron beam transmitted through the interceptor aperture passes therethrough and produces an RF output signal. The collector recovers remaining energy of the electron beam after passing through the output circuit.

  • Patent number: 7639785
Abstract: A compact, reliable scanning electron-beam x-ray source achieves reduced complexity and cost. In particular, the x-ray source includes an electron beam that is propagated parallel to an x-ray target and is swept across the target in response to a moving magnetic cross field. Rather than scanning the beam by deflecting it about a single point, the point of deflection is translated along the target length, dramatically reducing the volume of the device. The magnetic cross field is translated along the target length using either mechanical systems to move permanent magnets, or electrical systems to energize an array of electromagnets.

  • Patent number: 7609198
Abstract: A radar imaging system is provided that directly measures the spatial frequency components of a scene via digital-beam-forming techniques applied along the cross-track dimension. Separate transmit and receive antennas provide increased integration time for the receive function, thus improving the signal-to-noise ratio. A segmented receive antenna is employed and processed as a series of interferometers sensitive to spatial frequency components of the scene corresponding to the separation between pairs of antenna elements. Range gating is used in the along-track dimension to divide the return from an illuminated swath into multiple range bins that may be processed independently. The system provides an improved signal-to-noise ratio and lends significant flexibility to the image formation process, improving the quality of the radar imaging. An embodiment having multiple transmit antennas is also provided that enables the generation of three-dimensional stereoscopic radar images.

  • Patent number: 7594203
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for parallel optimization of an integrated circuit design based on the use of sets of cell instances that are independent from each other. Multiple changes to a design are analyzed in parallel by ensuring that no two cell instances that are being changed are in the same fan-in and fan-out cones. This property allows full timing analysis to be performed on a design such that multiple alternatives are explored in parallel and accurate results are obtained. By ordering the choice of cell instances to change and by ordering the alternatives to try, a greater degree of optimization is found earlier in the process.

  • Patent number: 7590151
Abstract: A time control mechanism accepts samples of time (true or otherwise) over a network, and enables dynamic compensation for random delays of the network in order to maintain the output of a slave clock that the time control mechanism controls within required bounds relative to the time of a master clock, even when the samples are randomly delayed. In one embodiment, a hardware timestamping method and apparatus is provided. The hardware timestamping method and apparatus is used to achieve the fine resolution required for timestamping both received samples and transmitted requests. In another embodiment, a delay-variation-smoothing method and apparatus is provided. The delay-variation-smoothing method and apparatus allows the time control mechanism to calculate the network delay in order to maintain the slave clock within the required time bounds.
